So you have no screen allready, great! All it does is restrict airflow. You just showed it isn't a problem without one. Just like all of us who removed ours, with no problems, either. :chevy

I agree with Buckmaster, I started to remove my MAF SCREEN when I first installed my blackwing. What I found was two small leaves up againt the screen and could not figure out how they got past the stock air filter system
so maybe it also helps keep large debri from entering the sensor.

02 C5s definitely come with a screen as I just installed my vortex today
I did not remove the screen cant see that it really restricts air that much to make a difference and as stated above think its a good idea to keep it just incase some larger debri gets past your filter although im not sure how that could happen just my .02 :seeya
