Clb?
my husband and I are going to look at a 1998 corvette LS1 Automatic transmis. with 71k miles with lots of upgrades and very well taken care of.
$16,500.
I read the column lock recall on these vehicles and verified that the Dealership has done the recall...does it mean that the wiring kit (Harness K) has been installed?
....but just to confirm:
IF before we test drive, the steering wheel still locks is it good or bad?
Is the Supercharger kit addition a good value?
Any more advise is welcome and
Thanks for you input

Good luck with your purchase.

GM did several recalls...non of which actually fixed the CLB!!!!!
The real fix today is called the LMC5 Module from Compliance Parts
it can be installed regardless of what other attempts or modifications have been made in an effort to fix the CLB issue... VERY SIMPLE
The PRICE seems a bit HIGH to me for a 98 AUTO and that kind of mileage...
Super Charged could be a nice upgrade....How much HP? DYNO sheet? Who did it? When was it done? I would want a LOT of info on that upgrade and any ADDITIONAL upgrades related to the SC...

The Manual diagnostic procedure is pretty simple as well...any specific Codes that I should be alarmed right away?..I will bring the list but was wondering if a particular Letter or number means major repair vs others...?

C1255 is an internal malfunction and that is the kiss of death unless it is an intermittent code.
This was on EBAY today...

...still too high??
You mentioned that the car is an automatic. Given that the factory recall has been done then the column WILL NOT ever lock. If the factory recall was correctly done then there WILL be a GM K Harness installed (assuming a previous owner has not installed either a Column Lock Bypass (CLB) or an LMC5). Further if the recall was correctly done, then the 2mph fuel shutoff was NOT done. As was stated above you should STILL consider installing an LMC5 if you do purchase the car. The LMC5 abandons ALL factory and recall wiring so you need not worry about what was actually done. Keep the install instructions for the LMC5. You may encounter the "Pull Key and Wait..." message after installing the LMC5 and will need the instructions to complete the Brown Wire Mod. Not a problem with the LMC5 but rather a timing issue with the GM BCM logic for Column Lock that some cars encounter after the LMC5 install.
I would pull codes before driving... write them down, then clear them...
AFTER driving pull the codes again BEFORE killing the car so you can see what codes are CURRENT...

B0361 HVAC
B0441 HVAC the AC was not working properly

RFA C2120 (tire monitor system)
PCM 0748 (Pres. Control Solenoid) ?
This last one kinda worries me because the transm. shifted HARD from 1st to Second and the Dealership is saying that its because of the High performance kit and mods..it sets the code off but its nothing and that's normal.
What do YOU think?
Cheers
If I were considering buying the car at the price you posted earlier I would want the P0748 code addressed. It may very likely be the cause of the hard shifting. Even if NOT, there is something not right in the trans causing the P0748. The Pressure Control (PC ) valve is not functioning correctly. Even on a normally aspirated setup I would be uncomfortable with that code. More so with a forced induction system.
I would also want the dealer to correct the HVAC issues and the lack of TPM's in the wheels.
The HVAC issue MIGHT just be that the actuators need to be recalibrated or it might be that the plastic drive gear in the actuator (left side per codes) is cracked and needs to be replaced. Not an especially expensive part but you need to take the dash apart to gain access to the actuator.

The TPMS are not transmitting or not installed. The TPM's for the early year cars are far more expensive than for the later year cars. If you bought the early year TPM's from the dealer at list price you are probably looking at $100 each. plus installation and programming. For the asking price of the car those should be replaced. JMHO

Just didn't know if the hard shifting could be normal having the supercharged kit and all...
If that is correct then the PC Solenoid Valve is acting up since the code came back and is Current.. Either high pressure or low pressure relative to what it normal according to my shop manual. Dealer needs to determine what is happening and what needs to be done to correct the issue. They have a Tech II scan tool and shop manuals and diagnostic procedures that will define the options for repair that they have.

They'll let me know on Mon what the deal is.
Thanks
