One of the reasons my father recently decided to take the dive on getting a 2015, is that his 2002 was due for tires and he'd rather not spend the money if he's eventually getting a C7 anyway. Problem is that I'm the sucker that bought a 2002 Corvette that needs tires.
So, what's the general consensus on whats good (especially for the money)? The car is coming off the original runflats (car only has 30,000 on it and wasn't driven particularly hard). Generally speaking I'm not sure if I want to go with runflats again, though if there is actually a good option that isn't excessively priced I'd consider it.
First of all be nice to Dad on Father's day and see if he'll let you borrow the C-7! Second, there are about ten zillion threads on new tires. I'm putting Nitto NTs on my 03 Vert this week ($1120 total from Big-O with a Nitrogen fill) My second choice was Hankooks from Tire Rack for about $200 less. I have been running Goodyear F1D3GS non-runflats with the TPMS installed for 70K+ miles. (two sets, get just over 30K miles on a set)
I'm really liking the Goodyear Eagle f1s (non-runflat). You didn't really say what you were looking for, but these seem like a nice mix of performance, comfort, and some all-season thrown in. They run for about $800 for a set on tire rack right now. If you're looking for seat of your pants performance, probably something else would be a better choice.
Yeah, I haven't been real sure what I want. In reality, this car is going to be more of a cruiser. So a quieter and more compliant ride would be more appropriate. My dad always hated how much cabin noise there was in that car, much of it was due to the ridiculous F1 RFTs that are on it.
After some talking with my wife this evening, she's of the opinion that we should still stick with run flats. I'm not opposed to them, so I'd definitely take some recommendations on the best runflats to go with.

You need an "all season" tire, or just one for summer driving? I recently replaced the tires on my '01, more because they were old, rather than worn. Since these cars don't have a spare tire, I stuck with run-flats, and went with the Michelin "summer tread" run-flats, since the car most definitely does not go out in the winter.
When I was shopping for tires, I was talking with my son about what tires he thought I should go with. He's not a tire guy but just wanted his opinion. He asked my how long ago it has been since I had a flat. I couldn't remember the last time I had a flat tire, So I went with Hankooks, glad I did.

However, just in case, did your son's car have a spare tire? I know that the RFs ride hard, but just one flat tire, out in the boondocks, will out weigh the better ride of the non-RFs, IMHO....

When was the last time you had a flat out in the boondocks? I'll take my chances and the smoother quieter ride IMHO.
for budget performance I like BFG sport comp 2 and bridgestone s-04. Those hankooks I wouldnt use for a tire swing, sorry...you want to step it up, go to bridgestone re-11s or yoko ad08s.
