Default Msd 2 step question

Guys that have used the msd 2 step. Did you tap into your factory clutch switch? Or install a second switch?

And does anybody know if our clutch switch is a ground switch or 12 volt switch?

I tapped into my brake light switch. I've got an auto. The signal wire is on a toggle so after I release the brake I shut off the toggle. Obviously otherwise if I tapped the brake the 2 step would activate. At least thats the theory, I haven't tapped the brake with the 2 step activated while making a pass..

Thanks for the info. But I really want this tied into my clutch. I'm just not sure if the clutch switch completes a ground circuit. Opens a ground circuit. closes a 12 v circuit. Or breaks a 12 v circuit.

Won't you need a momentary switch on the shifter, activated by the position of 1st gear also?

Not on this setup. This is in the instructions provided..

The LS 2-Step has a built-in rpm drop circuit that prevents the low rpm limit from activating during gear shifts (when connected through the clutch switch). In order for the limit to activate, it must see an rpm drop of more than 1/3 the set amount. For example, if the limit is set at 3,000 rpm, the limiter will not activate unless it sees more than a 1,000 rpm drop.

You could activate it on a push button like a trans brake. That was my other option. I'm sure somebody will post a schematic shortly...

I did some testing and may have figured it out. Purple wire on the clutch switch is the wire that needs to be grounded to make the starter turn over. Maybe others can shed some light but it looks like it is a normally open ground switch??

I understand. But I need something to tap into for a signal wire to the 2 step.

Thank you. I'm not good at reading these things. But is it safe to say that when the clutch is pushed, the purple wire coming out of the clutch switch is grounded?

OK. Thank you. This switch won't do what I need it to do then. My msd will let me trigger with either a ground or 12 volt source. Looks like I will need to add a switch of some type to the clutch pedal.

What I need is either a ground or a 12 volt source when the clutch pedal is down to the floor with the car running.

I just figured out that there are two clutch switches. One way up under the dash. And one mounted to the firewall. I want to know about the one on the firewall. What does it do? Is this the one pictured in the diagram?

If you look you will see it. There are for sure two of them. One is tucked up high under the dash.

I know what you are talking about. The white switch by the knee bolster part. Clutch position sensor I think. I had a code for that once when I put in my Tick master cylinder. Not really sure how it works though. Free bump.
