Default Memory seat vs no memory seat

I have a 2001 c5 with out memory. My switch went out. A memory switch is 80 bucks vs a non memory around 400. Will a memory switch work with a non memory car? Thanks in advance for help.

The service manual only shows one connector and pinout for the door switch regardless of whether the car has memory or not.

FYI, RockAuto has a non-memory switch for $189 and AutoZone can get it for $175 with a lifetime warranty.

So are you saying that either switch is good? So why does the non memory switch cost so much more?

You can use either switch, plug and play. The Non Memory switch is more expensive because they made fewer of them and less are now available.

Many people have done the swap that to save money. One person at least said they actually got Memory function with the exception of the seat. You have to have an SCM to get that. But then again you could put an SCM in to replace the Relay Module you presently have.

Memory is an RPO option but it may be a BCM program that is in all BCMs. I would need to throw my Tech 2 on my car and see if Memory has to be added or not. In the case I referenced I can't say if their BCM was original or a replacement that already had Memory programmed in.

If you put in a Memory switch and let us know if you get any Memory functions.

PS: Marc at VetteNuts.com has good used switches for less if you want to go that way.

Thanks for the info. I was told once that you couldn't swap them so I wanted to be sure before I bought it. I'll order one today and let you know how it works out.

Marc got me a turn signal multifunction switch, an insulation kit, and a couple other goodies for the same price as the next cheapest switch alone. Looks and works perfect.

He also went out of his way and broke the order into separate shipments at no extra charge to me, just because they had to precut the insulation kit, and I needed the multifunction switch ASAP.

So I just put in the new door switch. Fail. Still nothing. It is a memory switch but it's suppose to work right? So do you think it's an electrical issue?

Yes that switch will work. What did you do to diagnosis the switch was bad in the first place?

Most likely it is the Relay Control Module. That assumes you have power and ground to the module.

Check fuse 4 in the passenger fuse box.

If that does not fix it swap the seat circuit breakers from the right seat to the left and see if that helps. These are 35 and 36 in the passenger fuse box. This assumes the passenger seat works.

I apologize, I was giving you information for the seat and not the door. I had been working on several of each yesterday.

Do any of the door switch functions work? Did you buy the car this way or not?

Check fuse 33 and 34 in the passenger fuse box to start with.

We'll go from there.
