Ring Replacement - What to expect, did it hurt or help performance?
If it comes to that, what should I expect performance wise? No change, some improvement? I presume (hope) that it didn't cause any performance loss on anyone's car. Yes, no maybe?
Also, what is the likelyhood that they'll reflash the pcm and blow away Speedwork's LS1 Edit tuning while it's there?
Although I had my '95 in often, this is the first time I've handed my '01 over to them and I'm already biting my nails.
Thanks.

There is no reason for them to reflash your PCM for this.
Did the breather mod you made help with consumption at all? It didn't seem to help me any but it may have had a hand in improving (eliminating) the pinging I was getting at WOT.
I talked to the dealer today, and they topped the oil off and are going to watch it before they decide to do the replacement. That's fine with me, I'm not in a real big hurry to have them tear into the engine.
Hope yours goes well.

I can't really provide much of a scientific answer because I never endeavored to drive a certain amount of miles within a certain RPM range and then test the consumption, and then repeat at other RPMs and so forth. But, my gut tells me the PCV mod reduced both the consumption and the pinging, but in the long run, the improvement still was not enough to avoid the ring job. Also, in the long run, I can't help but think that consuming oil is not a good thing for the engine, so I'm hoping that the risk I'm taking by letting them tear into it is outweighed by the benefit of longterm reduced consumption, particularly since I plan to keep this car for at least 60k miles.
