So after 90,000 my stock harmonic balancer gave out on me. First sign was belt noise, than vibration throughout the rev band. I ordered a new harmonic balancer from summit racing along with a new OEM bolt and gasket that goes behind the balancer. I took the car to my mechanic friend but this could be a job done at home. Don't be fooled by other shops giving you outrageous prices to replace this part. Anyways onto the results. The car runs smoother than ever. Trick Flow really made a great product here. It is about 2lbs or so heavier than the OEM balancer which isnt bad actually. It does an amazing job at keeping vibrations to a bare minimum. Everything feels better. Stop and go, idle or even just revving the damn thing. There's even a slot cut into it if you would like to pin the crank. I really don't see a need for those super expensive balancers out there. I paid $189 for the balancer, $5 for the OEM bolt and about $15 for the new gasket. Go out there and get one. Oh and its a pretty nice piece of machinery to look at also. Thing looks like its gonna last a while.
We agree. Its a pretty strait forward job that doesn't take very long. We charge it as a flat rate job and not according to book time. Works out better for the customer.
The balancer can be changed by most persons that have the tools and the willingness to dive in but it's not a simple task. The job requires some special tools, some of which can be borrowed at your local auto parts store, and removal of many parts. If you haven't done one, then be prepared to have the car down for several days.
ARP bolt was on back order for 3 weeks and i needed the job done asap. Plus gonna be installing new cam soon so thats when I would be using the ARP bolt
