Default Trans temp questions

So I got the car up and running, drives ok, needs to be fine tuned, one of the issues is it idle hunts. But the other issue is the trans temp. I have the radiator by passed and have a b and m cooler with fan. The dic states the trans temps are getting as high as 235, however I can put my hand on the cooler and keep it there for a good 20 or more seconds, and the coolant is 198 and cant touch it, the trans cooler has only came on a couple times that I have noticed. My guess is the stock temp gauge is bad. Was thinking maybe its not circulating the oil, but it shifts perfect so I don't think its that.

So what is the best way to go about finding out which is the problem? Was thinking about putting a gauge inline but don't really have the space to do this the way I have my cooler set up. Anybody seen this ever?

Yea I have the b&m with the fan and the thermal switch. I have the lines coming in the bottom, so the fluid is not getting to the temp switch hot enough to turn on the fan causing the high temps. So I will flip it over so the temp switch gets the flow across it.

Oh I see, like some air is trapped. I also have one mounted like that and sometimes it kicks on at 175 and other times 190 and no fan, so I installed a manual switch to run the fan whenever I want.
