Default C5 Foglight option

Hope this helps somebody.

Found another SUPER BRIGHT led fog option for pitted stock lenses and poor throw and these have replaceable lenses! They use a 9 led COB and as I'm writing this, I can barely see the screen after being flashed for only a brief second from the side of these lights. They only cost 24.00 for the pair..but see for yourself the intensity of the light. I had HID in my stock units at 6k I have to say these are actually almost too bright and a whole lot brighter then 24W Hid. in fact they may be too bright to use with oncomming traffic unless they are leveled down far or smoked would blend in nicely!

Picture one - The assembly Pre-Modification (bracket must be made)
Picture Two - Unscrewed showing lens
Picture Three - Side view in operation - Seriously this blinded me
Picture Four - A room that is lit by a 100w lamp, so bright it throws the camera white balance for a loop. Thermally they operate slightly warm, but at 1 inch from focus, your hand will feel the intensity of the COB.

Purchased on Fleebay keywords COB DRL FOG

Sounds like a great up-grade. I wish you would have shown what bracket that needs to be used.

Can the LED module be added to the stock Fog Light housing?? How did you make the brackets?

I haven't made the bracket yet bill since the lights arrived fresh off the boat from HK last night, it was an eyeball purchase based on the known size of the stockers and it appears it's a very close match but until I actually measure everything up I won't have dimensions for you guys just yet, when I do you'll be the first to know besides me. As far as will the led module fit inside the stockers I would say moat likely not, if the front of the stock unscrewed like these do then the answer would be yes since an aluminum sink could be lathed and the chip mounted, from the rear, no not without hacking up the housing killing it's ip67 spec

I have very limited time and wouldn't want to keep you waiting, with that being said I will document the nessessary modifications I encounter and post them, objective was to obtain a close match in COB led flat mount, 8xx series bulbs just don't cut it, and HID replacements with the ballast I feel don't perform as good as led due to how they reflect in the stock housing. These on the other hand are insanely bright, have great throw but longevity is yet to be determined, let's face it they are ultra cheap and China MTBF of 50k hours is about two weeks in the states, let's say for now work in progress.

Default Installed annd the results are in!

Ok so tonight I installed the $24.00/pr COB Led fogs purchased from China the results are in and look promising! The good news is the entire procedure will take you less then an hour, Or an hour if you are documenting with photos.

All work is done from Topside, unless you're a 1%er like myself and drop your 1/4 drive wrench down the shoot.

The removal is straight forward, Turn on the headlights and disconnect the Negative Battery cable, leaving the lights in the UP position. Using a 1/4 drive socket wrench preferably a stubby with swivel head, remove the single 10MM bolt holding the factory fogs in place, they are located directly under the headlights accessed on both sides from the middle of the car, and will fit a size large forearm without problems. Remove the electrical connector, and bring the fog out between the headlight and the hood hinge. Careful not to scratch your covers.

Prepare the factory bracket by unscrewing both phillips screws securing the factory fogs to the OEM bracket, Here is the good news, The bracket can be used AS-IS with NO MODIFICATIONS! and is right on the money in placement of the lenses! Believe it or not, these were eyeballed from an ebay photo, I took a chance on the size being close to stock, I was 3/8s of an inch off but the flip side was the slightly smaller diameter eliminates all the issues with the fogs hitting the plastic panel, a complaint I have read over and over regarding aiming. I opted to NOT use the factory adjusters and keep my units in a fixed position, I was pressed for time and the extra work would have been very easy, you need a slightly longer bolt, 2 washers two small nuts and a small spring, all in all about 2.00 at home depot/lowes and you will retain the ability to aim the units just like factory!

Notes : If you experience dim performance during testing, and this threw me off for 35 mins, check your Ground Pack located on the pass side directly behind the headlights on the frame, I had worked mine over, used ACF-50 and all and still had an issue 2 years later so I re-cleaned them, you may find the same problem and grease dont matter, its still a crappy ground point.

Heres some shots of the mod, I have not linked the actual units I purchased unless all agree to a URL post to ebay since I am not supporting any one person, but a PM is fine if you wish to have the sellers name.

On to the photos.

First set brackets and Unit thats NOT how I wire, use an old bulb and make a harness using the diagram for positive and negative, Not how the factory adjuster is right up in there, a little tig action would have been perfect fit, just tig in a small tube and theres your adjusters, no tig? use washers and nuts, I personally was out of helium and time was a factor. Also note these lenses are replaceable, the factory units are not, These units are also aluminum not plastic and run cool to the touch no more burnt melted housings from HID conversions or 50W bulbs, less draw more light! heck I think a small interior bulb draws more amps then both of these, stock wire is 22ga wicked thin.

They look cool and the price is right but they don't have the cutoff line like the factory fog lights, right? That does make them rather unsafe for use with oncoming traffic.

Had them too high, trimmed down nobody flashed me though. Let's see how long they operate, my guess is a few months. Also remember lens is removable and run cool, you can mask off internally.
