Now I have been successful with the brake stall (powerbrake)at launch and I do admit my best 60 foot times(1.66,1.67) have been with this method but....
I'm told by several reliable and celebrated tuners and racers alike that I may be leaving some H.P. and E.T. at the tree by not using the flash stall launch tecnique so many of you have been talking about here on this forum.
I am led to believe that if the cars performance (powerband) is from let's say 3000+rpms on then in fact I should let the converter do it's job and flash at the prescribed and designated stall rpms( in my case PT2800) when leaving from an idle rpm and just nailing it on the 3rd yellow. ....On the other hand ,some say(and these are old schoolers) that you should bring the rpms to as close to the stall as possible without spinning the wheels and just release at the 3rd yellow and nail it. ...and that will be a more secure way to get you into the power band...in fact a line lock should be used resulting in a better E.T and better sixty foot times...
I 'm not here to start a conflict of theories because obviously both strategies have their merit but then again...who's right and why?
IMHO....in my circumstances I truly believe that you go with what works for you in a given situation.. :D I do think that my converter(PT2800) leaves room for improvement , and I'm working in that right now. I'm probably looking at the SY3500...ST3500 or maybe even a Vigilante2800 or Vigilante 3200..It's just a matter of the best bang for the buck and what will work for me in this situation.... I think the answer to this post may help me with my decision. If you wish to view my videos you will see that I barely get to the 3000 rpm range that I need to and I creep forward through the tree. In fact my best times and sixty foot I red lighted because the car just wouldn't sit still untill the green....HELP
Re: [HELP] Flash stall or Brake Stall at Launch.?? (vstella)
With the PT-2400 the car would creep forward at 1600 rpms, with the ST-3500 I am not sure, but I think the car started to creep around 2200 rpms. I almost red lighted, my next track date is Sept. 28 I will check again. I hate going to the track in the summer, its usually just to hot. How do you get to almost 3000 rpms? I know I can't get that high before encroachment on the start. :) Maybe I have weak brakes!
I have not tried both methods (PB & Flash) yet because the track has been very crowded the last three times out. But I do need to experiment, the PB method seems to make more sense to me, for some reason

That's EXACTLY what I am going through ..So I 'm not the only one...
Re: [HELP] Flash stall or Brake Stall at Launch.?? (vstella)
Best technique will depend on the car and conditions. I've run my C5 both ways and found that the 60' was almost idential but I didn't have to work as hard to keep the car from moving. Brake stalling pretty pretty much requires you to stand on the brakes to keep the car from moving while bringing the RPMs up. You can just comfortablely sit there when flashing the converter and let it go on the third yellow. 60' times were 1.71 brake stalling and 1.70 flashing. ET was 11.92 @ 115.01. I usually brake stall the Camaro and Suburban at the track but will be going the flashing route the next time up there.

Re: [HELP] Flash stall or Brake Stall at Launch.?? (tbyrne)
Pardon my ignorance here gentleman but please explain to me exactly how one flash stalls their A4 C5? I either hold the brake and have rpms come up right to the point b/f C5 starts to move (Brake Stall) or go from idle to WOT on the second yellow.

Please explain flash stall procedure.THanks...Nitrovette
You already answered your question..from idle to WOT the converter will lock up at the designated stall speed...You see you knew all the time
