Just bought a '99 (first vette). The D.I.C. reads SERV. TIRE MONITOR SYS. everytime I start the car. When I go through the gages, and get to the area where it is supposed to display the pressure in my tires, there is none. I know the dealer put new tires on this car before I bought it. Were they supposed to reset this gage option? It's also my understanding that each tire has a battery on it? Maybe those need to be replaced? How do I fix this so the DIC displays the tire pressures?

Either the sensors are bad or they just need to be reset. I'd try to reset first. Here is what you do:
Turn ignition on
2) Press "Reset" button in order to clear any IPC display warning messages
3) Press and release the "Options" button on the DIC to scroll through the
display options until the IPC display is blank
4) Press and hold the DIC "Reset" button for 3 seconds
5) Press the "Options" button again until TIRE TRAINING message appears
6) Press "Reset" button until the IPC "Learn L Front Tire" message appears in
order to begin the programming
7) Install the J41760 Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) System Programming Tool
(large magnet will do) over the left front valve stem
8) The horn will sound, indicating the left front TPM sensor is programmed
(if this takes more than 15 seconds, pull magnet back and try again, it will
give you three tries. Then you must start over)
9) When the horn sounds, proceed to program the next TPM sensor in the
following order as directed by the IPC messages:
-Learn R Front Tire
I alternate two sets of tires with sensors, so I do this a lot and it is no big deal. If this doesn't work then your sensors are bad. I think I'd go back and have a long chat with whomever you bought the car from.
Good luck, welcome to the forum and to vette ownership.

Thanks.
I just tried that... and all 4 tires made the horn sound, so I thought it worked. It did get rid of the SERV TIRE MONITOR SYS message, but when I scroll through my gage options and get to the tire pressures, they show no numbers in the PSI field. :nonod:
I think you will find that if you drive the car a few blocks, the pressures will start to appear. At least thats the way it seems to be with my '99. When ever it sits for a while, Usually in a week or two but sometimes less, the system seems to “lose track” of the sensors but it “finds them” after driving a short distance, with no tire training necessary. I just hit the reset when the SERV TIRE MONITOR SYS message appears and go on my way.
Also when driving on the freeway in 100+ heat, the message will appear and the pressure reads out with XX’s. In addition, the 100+ heat causes the LF to occasionally read 0 and the flat tire message appears. Again, a reset clears the message for a while but it will return until such time that the tires cool down and the pressures return to normal.
I just consider it one of the quirks with the vehicle.
:yesnod: Thanks to all above.
The relearning sequence PLUS driving a few blocks did the trick.
Chalk one up to the FORUM. Thanks again vetters.
