Charging System Fault
Prior to starting my '99 C5 FRC I got the "Charging System Fault" message. I started the car and drove away. When I got home I checked the owners' manual. Basically it said hit reset and drive on. It could reappear every 15 minutes. I drove the car for over an hour. The only thing I noticed was the meter in the DIC moved off the "12" mark and landed between "12" and the next hash "13" mark. Normally, it is between 13.5 and 13.7. The battery is fully charged, etc. What does this message mean? Is it safe to drive the car? NOTE: the message did not appear while driving! The manual noted if it appeared while driving it could be driven a short distance with all electricals off. I am planning a long business trip to Maine - a place that I want no car trouble.
