Default Torque Converter lock up

I'm not sure if the torque converter is locking up. It should lock up at nearly 40mph but I'm not hearing it. The RPM of the engine sits at around 1500 RPM at 40 MPH. Anyone with C5's and auto trans can tell me if that's correct?

It's been about 20 years since I've had an auto in a car, and our minivans have all locked softly... but 40MPH seems low to me. If it did, I think you'd have to be on flat or declining road. Just my 2 cents. That said we don't have pennies in Canada, so take that with a grain of salt.

On the highway it's doing 60-70 mph with the rpms at 2k. Again to me it doesn't seem like the torque converter is locking up.

I find lock up is much more distinguishable when accelerating than shifting "up".
Steady and flat at 60-70 if you accelerate, but short of it dropping a gear, can you feel it unlock/hear it/see the RPM drop?

I don't hear it. I use a HP Tuner scanner and I data log the transmission and torque converter. It's pretty amazing to replay my daily commute - a lot of stuff goes on. The torque converter locks up a dozen times (high speed driving with some stop and go).

The reason I'm logging the transmission is it got under filled when I had the transmission filter changed (at a corvette shop!). Then I had a oil leak in the radiator from a bad gasket.

Ended up adding 3 quarts (car on a lift, engine running, transmission fluid at 85 to 120 degrees). It was a big pain to pump it in, jut 1/2 a quart at a time. That is per the manual - which the shop did not follow.

But what a difference it made - it is like a new car. If you are having shift issues or a lack of power - check the transmission fluid level.

At freeway speed my RPM's are about 2,000. Converter locks up at 38-40 and I can definitely feel it. 3200 stall with RPM level 5 and 3:42's. Sometimes when in town and not on it, it will lock up just for a second while in 3rd when the selector is in drive. Probably the way Andy programed it and it never gives me any trouble.
