Default C5 Driver Control Not Working

Hey Guys,

I did a radio install today. At the end of the day after everything is assembled back together, I decide to go for a test drive.

When driving I noticed that the driver control buttons do not work, and several of the buttons simply do not light up at all!

Additionally now the I've seemed to have some of the lights on the HVAC unit! The Auto button and some of the other upper right hand side lights are not going anymore. The HVAC unit is fortunately still fully functional.

Please help!

I have the same problem with the buttons on the instrument pod. My HVAC Display light is too dim to read during the day. When I turn on the parking lights it lights up. I'm thinking that I'll tackle that when I take interior apart for sound deadening kit.

No relation to the radio install and either issue. Looks like Murphy just struck two birds with one stone.

There is one bulb used to light up two DIC buttons. These bulbs have a Blue tint applied to them. I bought some used spares from an LED conversion supplier years ago. Can't get them from GM. You can use Radio Shack 272-1092 and tint them. The bulbs just go into a plastic base that can be reused. No soldering required.

The HVAC unit can use the same 272-1092 bulbs and you don't need to tint them as the buttons have the Blue tint in them.

Thanks, Mr. Sam. I'll re-bulb them when I give the car the silent treatment.

Mr. Sam
Hi Sam, thanks for the reply.

What about the non-responsive DIC button? Those are probably my biggest concern because I have the change oil alert displaying and have no way to dismiss it.

I also notice that the lower buttons are less firm compared to the upper bottons... (and of course do nothing)

RIP RadioShack :-(

Radio Shack is not out of business, they just downsized at this point in time.

Sorry, got focused on the lights. If buttons do not work it is either the DIC switch or something in the IPC motherboard. I would try another switch first.

Wanted to update that I swapping out the DIC button module with a new one from eBay. After the swap everything works great!

Turns out the plastic clip that holds the circuit board in on the back of the module broke, so when you press the buttons it pushes the circuit board out, and the buttons don't make contact.

As for the HVAC lights, I ended up rebuilding the lights inside the unit and using all LED's. It looks really good with the new stereo in my opinion.

I have a similar head unit that I did a dry fit/ electrical test on a few days ago. It seems fine to me. Did you have any issues?

Yeah I had some pretty serious issues installing the headunit.

It was not the standard american double din measurements! Apparently double din in foreign countries are slightly larger, and you must be aware of this when getting a new bezel.

The original double din bezel was too small, and I had to send it back to Double D Mods WITH my head unit to be rebuilt to the exact size.

Also check out this thread, I had built up the wiring harness specifically for this radio, which made installation much easier on the day of.
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...t-adapter.html

I also ordered a custom mounting bracket for radio. The idea is this bracket would be compatible with ANY future radio I want to put in.
It is a huge help allowing me to adjust the radio to align perfectly with bezel

Thanks for the links. You actually answered a few of my questions before I even asked them.

I have a PAC ROEM-VET1 for the wiring. I'm not sure if there are any disadvantages to it.

I did get the mounting brackets from eBay. I was also planning on trying to fabricate a bezel from a spare that I have and cover it in carbon fiber and leather. I'm glad you told me about the din size difference because I had considered ordering one as well.

This advice was right on time and appreciated.
