Default Mod Myths Put To Rest

This is my opinion and my opinion only, I am sure people will agree and disagree but I just want to post this for the people like me who were skeptical about doing these mods on their C5.

My 3 favorite mods so far on my 98 C5 (Base as can be, no selective ride control, no Z51 package) has been the addition of C6 Z06 Anti-Roll Bars, C6 Grand Sport Wheels w/ Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 (K120) tires, and C6 Z06 Shocks.

I did those mods in that order; Roll Bars, Wheels/Tires, Shocks. Before the mods it was as stock as stock gets w/ 2000 model 5 spokes and all-season BF Goodrich tires.

Anywho.. The mod I pondered about the most was the Z06 Anti-Roll Bars...

What everyone says (Or reads when they are researching): "Go with the C6 Z51 Bars instead of the Z06 because of oversteer"

(This could be the case on a Z51 or Z06 but as stated I have neither)

My opinion: The C6 Z06 bars did not cause a lot of oversteer, in fact I barely noticed any at all even pushing through turns at 70+ on mountain runs (I do not condone this behavior ) at the time of install my tires were noticeably low on tread (I assume the oversteer was because of the tires)

People also say "If you go with Z06 Bars you need to do a wheel of the same size as the Z06"

So I listened and bought a mint set of 2010 Grand Sport Wheels from a member on the forum and put the Hankook V12 Evo2 tires on (So amazing)

Common Misconception: "The Z06/GS wheels stick out so far!!"

My opinion: It looks aggressive! (It will sling gravels and tire shine though so that's a downside) It isn't a huge amount sticking out... Everyone makes it out to seem like they stick out an inch or 2 and THEY DO NOT. They stick out less than an inch in both the front and the rear.
**This isn't a good picture but you can kind of see it**

I love the addition of these wheels I have gotten so many compliments and only one negative opinion from a C6 owner (His car was as stock as stock gets.. Nothing wrong with that but still) And you have to love the 325's in the rear! (I DO NOT scrub in the front or the rear with these tires 275/35r18 325/30r19)

Something was missing when I had the bars and wheels on though.. The car was off.. It was missing a link. The body roll was increased and it just felt sloppy... (Stock ride height as well)

Purchased a set of C6Z06 shocks from a member on the forum who took them off of their car at ~5000 miles.

IT WAS THE MISSING LINK.

The body roll is gone. The stability has increased substantially. The car is much more planted during acceleration. The shocks were the nail in the coffin.

I would recommend these mods to anyone who loves aggressive driving (Not road rage ) or track time.

Again these are just my opinions but hopefully this will help someone out because I would of loved to read information that wasn't negative when deciding on these mods. +1 for going against the grain!

If anyone has any questions regarding the mods let me know I'll be glad to answer them.

**SO STOCK Old Picture**

I agree somewhat anything you can do to make the car run flatter aound the trns is an improvement in handling---Larger diameter sway bars is the usual 1st choice---Also many people will simply install poly sway bar bushings which they say add 30% to the sway bar rating----Also in the rear many people will replace the stock rubber links with Z06 metal links which again adds to the sway bar rating----As far as shocks go he stock C5 shocks are pretty damn good---So that mod is strictly a preference of the driver---I know many people replace the stock C5 shocks with Z06 shocks or something from the aftermarket----To me on a daily driver this is an overkill unless you plan on autocross racing

Glad you are liking your mods. I put the c6 z06 wheels on mine. When you have time, post in here about your wheels.

I agree that the C5 shocks are good but they are way softer than the C6Z06 shocks. The C6Z shocks are way more performance oriented.

I do not DD my C5
