For those that have these bars and did the install themselves, did you lube the heims and if so what did you use? What did you use for the bushings?
I had to take the front bar off and I am ready to put it back on. I had a dealer do the original install and it doesn't look like they used the grease supplied with the bars to lube the bushings. Also they lubed the heims with something that made one hell of a mess. I'm going to clean everything up before I put it back together but I'm not sure what to lube with.
Hotchkis uses a white silicone grease on the bushings but their instructions don't say anything about lubing the heims. I've read posts here where people have lubed their heims, and I was wondering what they were using.
And if it's even necessary.
I sprayed brake cleaner on the end links to clean them well. Once dried, I took Valvoline synthetic grease lube and lubed them up. When lubing, make sure you rotate the bolt around to distribute the grease on all the surfaces of contact. Make sure you crank the adjuster nut on the end links tight to avoid any noise sources. I did not use any lube on the bushings as the instructions said they were pre-lubed.
I put the Bilstein Sports on a day before I did the sway bars. The shocks improved the ride dramatically. The car feels glued to the road and takes bumps much better, even speed bumps. I feel you should do shocks first, then the sway bars.
