Default Caliper Removal Questions.......

Does someone have a link to a tech page on this? I have done it other cars, but the Vette's look a little different compared to what I have done from my short inspection. What is the deal with that bolt on the rears? Is a special tool required? Thanx.

I had them off my 98 a while ago for new rotors, but don't remeber anything terribly different about removal, other than don't pull my bonehead mistake and try to remove the rear rotor with the e-brake engaged. It really doesn't work very well.

Good luck

I am mostly concerned with the bolt on the back of the rear caliper. As I remember, it just spins and spins. I think some 'tool' is required to remove it properly. Idea?

I just did this recently while swapping out my roteors and painting the calipers and there's no real trick to this except that brute force should be judiciously applied to a breaker bar to get the suckers loose. There are 2 loctited caliper mounting bolts that hold the caliper bracket to the wheel assembly and they are a doozey to get loose (125 lb. ft.). I used a breaker bar and "The Persuader" (5 lb. sledge) to break them loose. The other two guide pin bolts hold the caliper to the bracket and these are much easier to get off (23 lb. ft.).

Other than "The Persuader" I used no special tools to remove my calipers.
