I've recently acquired a 2001 C5 vert that belonged to a family member that passed away. So far I have found it has Kook headers, XPipe, Billy Boat PRT exhaust and the RadioFlyer Stealth Light Cannons. I have been reading the forums like crazy trying to learn what I can.
I would like to replace the shocks and have read that the C6 Z06 shocks are a favored and direct bolt on for the C5. Can anyone point me in the direction of the part numbers for these...am unsure what year C6 I should be looking for. Also are the front left and right the same part number as well as the rear left and right or do all four have different part numbers?
I would contact Gene Culley at Cultrage performance. He is a forum vendor and will help you out. I have purchased from him and he is very good about keeping you informed about your order. Good luck with your repair.
Shocks from any year C6 Z06 (or any year C6 base for that matter) are a direct bolt in replacement. Front shocks are different from the rear shocks. No difference left or right.
Does your car have the F45 RPO?? ( There would be a switch on the center console allowing you to select from 3 different ride selections.) If yes then you cannot just swap in a NON F45 shock.... The F45 RPO needs to be either deleted or bypassed or you will have the vehicle speed limited to 80 MPH.
8VETTE7 thanks for the info. It's the non F45 shocks that I'm after. I'll look on Gene's site that the above poster mentioned and find the part numbers based off any C6 year model.
Once you have part #'s also look on rockauto for them. You may get them cheaper than elsewhere. The ride was excellent when i did it. It was not to firm and i added the newer sway bars too.

Cultrag Performance can set you up with the shocks at a very good price.

those numbers should cross to ac delco numbers and then be available on amazon or rock auto, rock auto often has the delco and gm number in the listing
usually better deals than the hothead vendors off here
Sorry to steal your thread todd5250. Hope you don't mind.
I have a 2002 C5 Vette with 113,xxx miles. I do'nt know if they ever got changed by previous owners. So I have 2 questions-
How often do you change your shocks?
So C6 Z06 are better replacement shocks than the oem C5's?

There is no set rule as to when you should replace them; however, at 113k I would say they are definitely due for a changing. Unless you own the car for another 70-80k I wouldn't think they would need to be changed again unless one of them starts leaking.
The C6 Z06 shocks are much cheaper than the 97-04 OEM shocks. That's one of the main reasons the C6 shocks are recommended. I'm sure there are performance gains from the Z06 shocks but I'll let someone else chime in on specifics.
The base C6 shocks are also much cheaper than the c5 base. I have the C6 base shocks,
and they are working great. Maybe softer than the Z06, but they eat up bumps better.
If you lower the rear too much, then you need a stiffer shock to help with rebounding constantly off the bump stop due to lack of travel.
