I have a lifter clacking on my 01 convertible. 95k miles. GM re-ringed my engine at 25k miles (the famous oil blow by issue for MN6 cars driven properly). Anyway - I know I need to replace all of the lifters... But what would you do? I am fairly capable and have access to my dad's machine shop (I just lack the time) and can get parts at wholesale through him.
1. DIY - the job is not that bad
2. Have a reputable shop do it
3. This is the time to do some mods! Think heads and cam? Or?
4. Sell it as is and upgrade to a C7!
My car is mostly stock. No engine mods other than an oil trap. If #2 or #3 does anyone know of reputable shops in Sacramento or Bay Area?
Fixing it yourself is the cheapest way out. As far as your other options, it depends on how much you can or want to spend. If you really like the car and intend to keep it for a while, some minor mods might be in order. That is totally up to you. I'd leave it stock and reliable. I've had too many modded cars in my day. Always something to fix, adjust, replace, upgrade. More and more $$$.
If I had the time I would do it myself. I just rebuilt my 2000 LS1 myself outside of the machine shop installing cam bearings and freeze plugs after the machining work.
