I'm not a very schooled drag racer, so I thought I'd pore over the forum for tips. Of course I looked up Powershifter because he always has ridiculous times and found the thread where he ran the 11.985. Using the method he described within, I grabbed the GTech and hit the back roads.
The best I could muster on my own style dropping the hammer at about 2200 was a 4.59. Every time I launched I bogged, and shifted at the 6500 redline.
Then using Rics method of revving higher to 3100 rpms, letting the clutch out fairly quickly at about 6 feet out, with full progressive gas by 25ft out and 6200rpm powershifts rather than redline speed shifts the results were as follows:
1st run: slight bog and a 4.46
2nd run: more bog and a 4.43
3rd run: slight bog again and a 4.34
4th run: slight bog and a 4.32
Clearly the results were already better, but I decided to try a bit more gas to get em to not bog and on my final run busted out the whoopin stick
5th run: no bog, spin until up 25mph then hook and a 4.08 run to 60!
A little practice and I managed a damn near 4 flat run to 60 with nothing but an air intake. Needless to say I'm pleased to drop a full half second off my 0-60 time and Rics launch method has given me some confidence to break my crappy 12.8 1/4 time. Anyone that thinks powershifting is not the way on these cars is nuts. It's the only way to go baby! :yesnod:
Yeah, generally a bog is better than a burn-but these cars with the wimpy clutch and tall 1st gear, it can be hard to tell.
In my old 5.0 days, the only way you could get some of these out of the hole w/o melting the 225's was to slip it in off idle and ride first gear out (3.35 first gear x 3.08) from practically a bog.
