Default Cruise control

I had an opportunity to take a short trip and I noticed that my cruise control did not work. I purchased the 03 Anniversary two years ago and this was the first time that I tried it.

My first stop was to check the posts on the Forum and most posts pointed to a switch on the brake pedal, "which is almost impossible to get at".

To make this short, I noticed that a former owner had spilled coke in the ash tray and that the lighter would not work. On inspection, I found that the lighter was bad and that the previous owner had replaced the lighter fuse with a 30 amp instead of a 20 amp. The 30 amp fuse was blown.

After cleaning things up and replacing the lighter housing, and the fuse, the lighter works and so does the CRUISE CONTROL!

Go figure?

Interesting resolution and good that you got it working again without any substantial expense.

REMEMBER GM hides the fuse to your OBD2 port from your ECM on the cigarette lighter circuit !!!! So if you have a lighter fault your OBD2 port to your ECM will be dead as well----That's why they recommend not to use any accessory battery chargers for a long period that plug into the lighter as they often will blow that fuse--and who knows what can happen--
ALSO---If your car is an automatic---anytime you touch the brake pedal it UN LOCKS the TQ converter---If you had a brake light fault your converter was most likely not locking up-- which can cause it to overheat and have poor gas mileage

Are you sure? My FSM shows the OBD port is powered by fuse 29 and not 7.

Fuse 7 for the cigar lighter is not shared with anything except there is a GM provided taped off auxiliary feed from it for optional use by from 97-03 cars.
