I see big numbers for the makers of air filters I have Vararam came with my 04 Z ?? anybody have any real world numbers on the best set up ,I am thinking the ones that get air for the radiator shroud would be best but most radiators are hot so might be a good either.. Maybe what I have is the best ? Dyno numbers..Thanks..
My Vararam has been a thorn in my side from day one. One code after another. I reworked it yesterday so I hope it gets better. So far it feels like money poorly spent. I hope the Halltech is better for you. After spending so much for it and then having to spend more for a tune is not what I expected.

Everything I see the Vararam is a huge PITA to install (but yours already is) but pulls fresh air from the front of the car. Another potential negative is sucking up water if you run deep somehow.
I'd stick with what you have if you're a fair weather driver. If it's a DD, I personally would consider any Blackwing style unit (not for power, to settle my paranoia as mine is a DD).
I personally do not like the idea of the units that pull air from the radiator area (retail or flip mod).
I would also be a bit suspect of any tests done by the manufacturer, not valid unless done by a non-interested third party IMO.
The IAT gauge in my dash tells me that the intake air temp is exactly the same with my halltech as it was with that vararam. Both run down the road within a degree of ambient.
Thanks for the input the Vararam I have is working fine I guess , was installed when I got the 04 ,I tried to take it out awhile back to do something OMG so left it in the ducks looked like a pain to take in and out . Water ? haven't had a prom. yet but is on my mind have been in some deep water worked OK no water in the system as of yet ,I guess there all about the same. LOL the manufacturer test ,yep install one of these 50 HP RIGHT.. Thanks..
Varraram's have been known to throw many codes--So most likely if you aren't getting any someone before you may have tuned your car---
The codes are mostly due to the MAF relocation and NOT a huge airflow gain---In order to get a LEAN code means that your airflow has exceeded 25%---Not gonna happen !!
However a MAF relocation will cause your MAF to go crazy and read incorrectly--hence the codes
My belief is that ANY CAI is only worth about 10-18 RWHP --Varraram claims that their product will actually pack air into the airbox----This is an area of huge debate---Most old school guys will tell you that maybe you can pack some air in but only after about 100MPH or so---and then only very little maybe 1-2% ---A CAI can't create BOOST !!!!

I ditched the Vararam for the Honker. Just a cleaner and tighter setup. I never had any issues with the Vararam though, although I also used RTV to glue the K&N filter in place.
Thanks , its something to think about I see filters after filters was thinking was missing out on some HP guess not my Vararam works OK no codes just looking for better air flow all about the same looks like to me ..Thanks for all the input got 440 RWHP with cam a few bolts ons works for me .. Thanks ..
