Default Auto trans question

Hi everyone,
The project is going well but I have a couple of questions about changing the fluid. 1st Quest What trans fluid does everyone suggest - I am thinking Castrol Dex III premeum is a good choice but I would like to know what you think. 2nd quest - After draining the fluid and putting in the new WIX filter, I measured the fluid I removed, about 5 3/4 Qts. I realize I cant get all that back in static. The question is, do I start it, pull the plug, then start pumping the rest of the fluid in with my fluid transfer pump till it starts to run out?
Any advise that you have is greatly appreciated

Yes the car has to be running in order to check the fluid level correctly----Plus it must be warmed up---You must also shift it into reverse and drive and neutral several times to get all the air out of the system--- I am not a big fan of synthetic trans fluid that is your decision--The factory recc. fluid is the best choice---

Default transmission fluid

The recommended fluid for the c5 when they were new was Dexron III. GM has updated their recommendation to Dexron VI, which is a semisynthetic fluid to the best of my knowledge. When I changed my fluid I went with Dexron III I purchased at a local auto supply. It is still available. I would just go with the Castrol Dexron III you originally talked about. Good luck

Great info to know, I'll ask around for it. My dealership will just say they don't have it so it will take a few phone calls
Thanks !!!
