I'm having a problem that several others have identified here on the board with my DIC backlights not turning off and draining the battery. Below is a thread that I found that shows two fixes - a wiring fix and a fix to the IPC, which controls these lights being turned off.
The wiring solution is found in post 43 in the link below. My question is, does anyone know how much the wiring varied over the years for the DIC? I'm not an electrical person as far as chasing down wires, but I am capable of doing the procedure in post 43 provided the wires are the same.
I have a 99 FRC non HUD model with just the DIC buttons on the right and the dimmer **** on the left.
The IPC fix is outlined in post 46. Where is the IPC physically located. Is it something I can buy, take to the dealer, have them program the mileage and be done with it? Do I tell who I bought it from the mileage on the car and install it myself? Any thoughts.
Thanks for the response! So, the IPC is the whole instrument cluster, which gets pulled and sent in. Nice. Can you still drive the car (will it run) without the instrument cluster?

I got luck on this one. When I opened the BCM cover there was a purple wire that had been spliced into that was squished between the BCM case and the cover. When I bought the car an aftermarket stereo had been pulled and the stock one reinstalled, so I just figured this was leftover wiring from then. I moved it out of the way before replacing the cover after confirming there was no moisture. Today I noticed that the lights go off as they should. I can only assume that the wire I moved or something close to it was my culprit. I'll have to watch the lights for a while, but my gremlin seems to be gone for now.
On a side note I had contacted Nationwide Instrument Cluster as others have suggested and was told by them that they parts they need to make that repair are no longer available and they can't provide the service any longer. Bummer.
