Default New to the LS1....

I posted this over on FI/Nitrous as well....

I am in the process of purchasing a 98 LS1 out of a T/A to drop into the 69 vette and have some questions about the engine. From what some of you guys on this section are running, the bottom end must be pretty good! Can't believe you guys can run 300HP nitrous shots on a stock bottom end! WOW! My questions start with cam selection. Crane seems to have didly squat for the LS1. Couple of piddly little grinds, but nothing serious. I was kinda fond of the ASA grind from GMPP (I have an LT4 "Hot" cam for the LT1 for the 71) and some of the cams from MTI look pretty good. I am planning on running a 100-150 shot on nitrous and I also have a Paxton SN2000 supercharger in the garage. I have spoken to Craig from Paradise Wheels (purchased the rights to the SN series of superchargers from Paxton) about setting up a bracket to mount the blower on an LS1. It would give me about 6psi. I figure with the ASA grind (or something similar) and some head porting I should be in the 500HP range without the juice (so says DD2K). Close? Is the ASA grind decent? Any other suggestions? Lunati seems to have some decent LS1 grinds too. I live really close to LPE, so I am thinking of having them do the heads. They are a little pricy, tho. I have also talked to CFM in Indy, they have done LS1 heads as well. Anyway, thanks for putting up with me and I will bop in from time to time, if you can put up with a C3!!

For a cam I would use Comp Cams over Lunati. Lunati is not what it use to be. They're both here in Memphis, most of there top techs went over to Comp Cams when Holley bought out Lunati. Lunati still has some good stuff, but they tend to cookie cut for the masses now. Call Comp and ask for Hadley, he can give you some good info... goodluck.

Well, the deal is done. I am now the proud owner of a 98 LS1. 80K miles. I am going to re-build it, of course. Gotta talk a little more seriously to Craig Conley at Paradise about a bracket for the Paxton. Got some time tho. Not planning on dropping in the LS1 until next winter. Gotta finish the 71 with the LT1 this winter. I am going to try and get ahold of Comp Cams about what grind I should be running. Well, expect lots of questions from me. Thanks!
