So I added long tube headers the other day and drove the car maybe 10 miles without the o2 sensors hooked up. Was running fine but rich. Today my extensions came in the mail and i hooked them up. I drove the car and it's running horrible. Can't get the Rpms up over 2,000. Check engine light flashed and got the misfire code. Got the car home and checked the plugs. Two plug wires weren't in the distributor all the way. Pushed them in and they both clicked on. Unplugged the battery to hopefully reset the computer to run with the plugs in then tried driving again. No more misfire code or check engine but the car is still running horribly. It's not driveable. Not sure what to do. I erased the codes after the misfire code came in and i can't drive it long enough to generate anymore.
Does it matter what side you plug each sensor into? The way they are facing it was easier to get the driver side plug into the passenger side header. I didn't think it would matter but maybe it does. I can't find anything online talking about this.
Almost seems like it's not getting enough gas. Do I have to reset the computer somehow?

You can use the DIC to see all your codes and reset them as needed.
Entering On-Board Diagnostics To enter the Diagnostic Display function perform the following steps:
1. Turn ON the ignition switch, with the engine OFF.
2. Press the RESET button to acknowledge any warning messages present.
3. Press the OPTIONS button on the Driver Information Center (DIC) and hold.
4. While holding the OPTIONS button press the FUEL button 4 times within a 5 second period.
5. System will first enter automatic display mode followed by the manual display
Yeah I know how to do that and I did but i reset them after I got the misfire code and pushed the wires in all the way. So now when I check the codes there aren't any.
I'm hoping it has to do with plugging in the driver side sensor to the passenger side chord. But I can't see why that would matter.
YES, having them plugged in the wrong side will do this. I did it once after my head install. The computer will try to lean or richen the wrong bank untill it won't run. Switch the wires around and you should be ok.
Ok great thanks. I have just found some other forums from googling the heck out of the issue and i could find something similar on a bmw forum. Glad to hear it can be the problem on my vette. I feel so dumb for doing it but it just seemed easier then to bend the chord back the other way and i thought about it and couldn't see how it would matter. But hey it does and now I learned something. Thanks
So I changed the sensors over and its running perfect. The drone actually seems to have went away that was there before the long tube headers with only the obx exhaust. Then after I put the long tubes on with no sensors it was even worse. But now with sensors added I just took it for a spin on this warm NY Christmas day and it sounds awesome. Way less drone and it drives like a beast. Needless to say it is a good christmas so far. Getting a tune this week so it should be even better. Thanks everyone and have a good day.
