Accessory Power vs Cigarette Lighter
Picked up a new/ used console from ebay. Wanted to put accessory power outlet in ashtray area to replace cigarette lighter that didn't work.
Not sure if voltage is same so asking before I put entire dash back together ,
Just replaced ignition switch, and hazard switch so I will be looking good.
Have 2 accessory power from 2 consoles, and nobody needs cigarette lighter anymore.
The plug in the console is fuse #1. It will be at the very top of the same fuse box just to the left of a micro relay. That circuit should handle 15A.
Maybe it's only the cig lighter piece itself that isn't working. You can check for power using a digital voltmeter.
And there are also two power leads next to the fuse box. One is ignition switched, the other is always hot. There is a dedicted ground wire in the same harness. I believe these wires can handle 10A each.
Not sure about the ashtray cig lighter circuit but the fuses will have a rating on them. Probably 10A.
They are a different design so the connectors are different.
Here is how to remove the console port since it is unique. Not my wirteup.
Removal of Accessory Power Plug from Center Console

(craig04c5): I know this sounds dumb but I can't figure out how to remove the lighter housing in the armrest console. I need to remove it because my stereo installer ran the USB/IPOD cable through the same hole and I need to get the wires out so I can get the console out. The console won't come out with the wires in it and the wires disappear behind the radio and I don't want to remove that. I know how to disconnect the electrical wire but I need to take the lighter housing out. To remove the radio surround lighter you just unscrew it.
($$$frumnuttin’): It does unscrew! You have to put a huge amount of torque on it because the metal is not finished and it binds easily with the mating threads. I just learned this myself when I had my console refinished.
(GM Fan): Just had mine out yesterday. I'm not going to explain this very well, but on mine the lighter housing has two ears or whatever you call them that hold it in the hole in the console. There is a single corresponding cutout in the console at the 12 o'clock position around the hole. So I spun the lighter housing around while pushing it toward the storage area in the console until one ear came out through the recess, then spun it 180 more degrees and it popped the last ear out and it was free. Might be a little difficult with wires jammed through the hole too. Mine definitely did not unscrew, maybe they changed it through the years.
(DeeGee): Remove the electrical connector from the back and twist it out. You need to have the console out of the car to do it easily but that only takes five minutes
