Default Exhaust Drone Question

Hello, my 2002 Z06 has long tube headers, X pipe, High flow cats and OBX Exhaust. I have pretty bad drone inside the vehicle. I just added the LT and X Pipe but I had drone before then as well. I am getting a tune this week. Will the tune help at all with the drone? Will replacing the OBX with Corsa or another brand exhaust help with the drone? If I am cruising at 2,000 rpm its fine but anything lower or higher its pretty loud inside. I even have the z06 sound dampening partition but its still bad. Any advise is appreciated.
Thanks

The LTs and/or x-pipe is not causing your drone problem. I would dump the OBX and go with Corsa/Magna-Flow, etc.

Thanks, yeah I didnt think it was the LT and X pipe as i had drone prior to adding them. I just was wondering if the Corsa would make that much of a difference compared to the obx. thanks

Well, actually there's no such thing as "the Corsa". They have more than one system, each a bit different in overall sound output and/or quality. The one good thing they, or MagnaFlow, etc have in common, is no drone. Each of these companies work hard to eliminate it and do a very good job.

Sometimes, you really DO get what you pay for.

Ok thanks. I grouped corsa as a whole because I thought they all had the no drone technology. I'm thinking either extreme or Indy pace. But I'll look at the magnaflows as well. Thanks

I run a Corsa Indy Pace Car system on my car and there is no drone at all. I would say your drone is a result of the catback and swapping that out should solve your problem.

Great thanks. So how's the corsa Indy pace vs the extreme? And how's the magnaflows compared to corsa?

You're right about the no-drone aspect being a common trait, I was thinking more along the lines of these companies having more than one system to choose from.
Sound is definitely a HUGELY personal thing of course and it's difficult, at best, when trying to recommend a cat-back set-up without hearing each one first and even then, thing's vary a great deal depending on the engine size, header/x-pipe choice, choice of particular brand, etc, etc.
The best way is to go to car club meets or shows and hear them for yourself. That, obviously, can be very time-consuming.

I have LTs, de-cat x pipe and Corsa extreme tail pipes. Zero drone in 99% of driving. The 1% being if you're going up a grade in a high gear at under 2k rpm there is a slight drone. Corsa makes a great product!

your tune will have no effect on drone, as stated above the culprit is most likely the obx axle back... I love my corsa xtremes but be warned with longtubes they can be pretty loud... the high flow cats will keep the noise down just a tad over not having cats, but if you mod the car any further like adding a cam then it will just get louder... one of the factors that made me get them was the design, it is basically a straight pipe that never flows directly through the muffler... there is a small pipe off the side that connects it to the muffler and this is where the drone cancellation comes into play... the least restriction you have the more air you can get out of the motor and that means more power... personally I like them but they aren't for everyone

Thanks a lot everyone. I don't mind a loud mean sounding exhaust but will the xtremes be louder inside the car than the pace car? How's the drone with the magnaflows?

with him, they weren't for me (extremes)! on my car after the new motor, cam, headers x pipe, SC, just plane too loud and mine seemed to have a drone effect at certain rpm's. I hated to give them up because they looked so good with 4" tips. I put on the factory Ti's and it fixed my problem, not sure what the other corsa products would have sounded like in comparison but I love the sound tone and level I have now!
My two cents

Our systems tend to skew more towards a deep growl rather than an out and out scream. We're also typically on the quieter end of the spectrum but we believe in quality over quantity.

Our systems are also 100% designed and manufactured in our factory in Southern California and carry a lifetime warranty. Our cat-back should definitely help tune out the drone you're experiencing with your current system. If you have any questions, please feel free to shoot us a PM or give us a call.

Thanks!

I have long tube headers, hi-flow cats, and Z06 titanium exhausts on my '02 Coupe, and really like the exhaust note it produces with zero drone. Some think that setup is too quiet, but I like it much more than the Borla Quad Stingers I previously had.

When I bought my car it had a OBX cat back on it, As as soon as make up my mind on what I will replace it with it's going in the dumpster.. If you like for you ears to ring, Have sagging pipes under the car this is the system for you.

cammed, LT headers, x pipe, Corsa catback. No drone. If the stereo is on you can barely hear the car at 1450 in sixth at 70. Romp on it she roars but no bad sounds at all inside.

Anyone with experience with the AMM Quad exhaust. Just installed them...and there's quite a bit of drone at low RPMs. Will Fatmat or Dynamat help?

What about headers?

I had Magna Flow axle backs on my 04 and loved them before I added long tubes. The drone in the Magna Flows was unbearable after installing the headers. I sold them and bought the Corsa Pace Car system and problem solved - the drone was gone. Corsa engineers their systems with drone canceling technology and it works. I haven't seen any other companies that make the same claim.
