Can't offer much on the converter but I will say I'd do the gears with the TC.
And a bump for you...

Do the car a favor and grab a 3.15 or 3.42 diff and install it simultaneously with the converter. With a 2.73 you're limited on converter choice and those gears are also causing the transmission to work hard thus generating more heat. You need to get some gear in the car to help get it moving so the trans doesn't have to do as much work.

With the addition of a 3.42 and 3000rpm stall you'll lose a solid full second in the 1/4.

Thanks for the reply!
Would getting a new diff just be better? I see some forsale for cheap. I have read that the 273 case won't fit the 342 gears?. And what brand shall would u prefer I've read good and bad about all of them haha. I don't wanna go all out bc I do plan on going with a th400 in the future.

I'd just find a used Z06 rear with 3.42's
As for the th400... you are referring to an old 3 speed auto? You can fit them in a C5!? And why?

Just the rear diff or the full rear end? because if its as easy as just swapping out the diffs and tuning ill do it within a week haha.
I know the th400 and powerglides have been in older muscle cars I have a buddy with a supra that showed me some. And yes i believe you can fit them in a c5.

Not sure what you're calling a "full rear end". Just changing the gears in an existing C5 differential is daunting and requires special tools and knowledge. Much easier to replace the differential with a 3.42 from a Z. Not expensive (relatively speaking) and will make a world of difference. It's a known fact that the C5 axles are very very good. Keep those, change the differential, add your stall (3000-3600 would probably be good depending on mods) and you'll notice a HUGE difference. And yep, it'll need tuned afterwards.

On a side note... Installing a glide or alternative tranny can be expensive so you'd better have some really deep pockets. A lot of things have to be changed to make them work.

What CactusCat said on all. Unsure why you want to switch out the factory tranny though. If you have the need and matching pockets to do so... are you building a 1/4 mile car?

don't forget the hardened output shaft....have 2000 coupe with change from 2.73 to 3.42 gears(Z06)...have headers and cam....stall is the Yank 3600....it was installed in 2007.....wife drove the car when installed and couldn't tell the difference...it will hook up well...my 1/4 mile is 11.83 w/118mph on reg. gas....friend has same set up and year and runs 11.45 in the 1/4.....he has 59cc heads...mine are 62cc and he runs 3.73 gears w/100 octane....otherwise cars are the same...same cam, etc...

Sweet thanks for the info. I have a seal leak so while the tranny is out I'm looking to do a stall and diff to help save labor price. Would you know a good website I can get a Z diff?

First place I'd look for a 3.42 diff is right here on CF in the For Sale section. After that I'd talk with Marc at VetteNuts (supporting vendor here on CF) and see if he has any used ones. I'd also check the auction site and local craigslist. If you want the very best, talk to ECS, RPM or any of several other vendors here on CF and have them build you one that can take up to 1000rwhp or more. A built differential can cost several thousands. A used one will be several hundreds.
