One of the supporting vendors sells an adapter plate that matches the interior very well. It has the word "Corvette" engraved in it that can be set up with backlighting. I used that for mine without the backlight and really like it. It is very sturdy and allows you to recess the unit to make it more flush with the dash.
There's 47 brand markings on this car already. I didn't really want to add another. Although I like the idea of backlighting. I went for cost efficiency here. I didnt want the cheap crappy black bracket, and can't spring for a DD conversion yet.

The lettering can be above or below the head unit opening, there is also a non illuminated version with the head unit located in the center of the mount.
The main lettering illumination available in red, blue, green, yellow, white LED’s and also red mini lamp illumination.
I used the Metra one. Seems to work well. The adapter has two red wires to connect your head to the switched 12v+ wire. Either one will work. I just hooked both in together. This substitutes a switched 12v+ from any other source since the one at the harness is disabled by the cars computers.

So by using the Pac you have to tap into a 12v+ somewhere other than the factory stereo wiring?

Yes, that is correct for the PAC Audio adapter. For the 97-03 models (and you have a 2000) in the passenger's foot well behind the toe kick panel and to the left of the BCM are three wires that are blunt cut and taped over:
1) Black is ground
2) Yellow is switched power via fuse #11
3) Orange is hot at all times via fuse #7

These wires are not present in the 04 C5.
I have an 03. Well sounds like the Metra is easier to install, which is probably why it costs almost double the Pac. I just had read some posts about the Pac working good for awhile then messing up.
Does anyone have a great installation video? No cheesy vejay jay dude and his corny sexxed up picture slideshow? My PAC ROEM VET1 is due by the end of the week. I'd like to save the money and install it myself..

Would this do? It's a very detailed step-by-step guide with pictures along the way.
