I have a 2001 Z06 that sits in the garage with 24K miles. I know that I need a new clutch and it seems that there are many to choose from, and thats where I need help. I would like to upgrade from stock but I do not need a high performance clutch. Can someone more qualified point me in the right direction. This is a completely stock car with everything original.
I have used the stock, ls7 and now Mcleod rxt twin disk, if your just wanting to upgrade over a stock clutch I would just go with the ls7 clutch
It is heavier than stock so do not use it with the ls7 flywheel I used it with the Ram 2552 which will get you to about the same weight
Also replace throwout bearing while your in there and you may want to pick up the bearing shim kit from Tick Performance if you want to dial in the pedal
Most install a remote bleeder also but if your just keeping it stock and not racing you may not care for that, hopefully this will help a little but like anything there are many different clutch options and everyone has their preference good luck!
May be a stupid question... but how do you know you need a new clutch... what is it doing?
My wife had a leak fixed when I was out of town for a couple of weeks. It turned out the master slave needed to be replaced and she had it done for about $900. The mechanic told her that the clutch was going to need replacing within the next year which really pissed me off as he had everything apart and could have easily replaced it then. I made a bitch fest about it and the owner of that shop agreed to charge me half price on the labor when it needed replaced.
I am really the only one who drives it anymore (weekends) and I am probably a little hard on the clutch as I love to rev and dump and let it break free, so I am pretty sure that its me that has caused the wear on the clutch. I just dont know what I dont know and so I thought I would reach out here and see if I could get some help.

Thanks for the reply. I will check into those options and do my due diligence.
What ever clutch that you choose....... ALWAYS install a remote bleeder and ALWAYS measure for the proper slave shims.
Ya know,,, unless the damn mechanic ripped out the clutch disk and measured it, there NO way that he can say that the clutch is nd and needs replacing.
I beat the hell out of my 02 ZO6 clutch with MODs installed. (390 rwhp/370 tq) and my clutch was fine when I plulled it out at 44,000 miles. It failed once I subjected it to 450 rwhp at the next set of mods!
If it aint broke,, I personally wouldnt worry about it..
If it isnt slipping, sticking to the floor, making hard shifts ect..... Its fine..

I have full intentions on keeping it. I just wanted to know what to get in the event that it started acting up and I needed to replace it. Im not a mechanic so I will also need to find a good shop here in vegas if anyone knows someone.
