I have a 2002 A4, and am looking to upgrade my rear diff gears to at least 3.15. Ive seen a few for sale ads, and it seems that the 2.73 is undesirable to say the least.
Since mine is a 3 rib case, would it be slightly more sought after? It seems like no one rebuilds these things, they just buy a used one off a Z06
Millage on my current set up is 89k, drive train is entirely stock, and is used for weekend fun on the streets
I have a single rib 2.73 that I've tried to sell several times but had no luck. It's been in my shop for about 5 years. Your 3 rib should sell fairly easy, lots of folks like them. Good luck!!
Contrary to popular belief, they make gear sets for the 2.73 diff. A 2.73 - 3 rib diff, in theory, should be more valuable, or at least as valuable, as a 3.15/3.42 diff.
The ring gear is thicker - stronger? - than the typical 3.15/3.42/3.73/3.90/4.10 gear.
