So, had the terrifying experience last month of the car just taking over from me while driving down the road so after much research here it was generally agreed that the YAW probably needed replacing. I took it to the stealership without saying anything about the YAW and their diagnostics came back with, of course. faulty YAW. I had it replaced, got the car back 10 days ago and everything seemed fine until this morning on my way home from work when the car suddenly jerked really bad like I had run over something (but I didn't) and the "Service Active Handling" message immediately came back on. It didn't feel the same as last time when the whole car felt like it had taken over driving for me but it was close. By chance, if the Active Handling disengages while driving, would it cause a big jerk like that? A couple of days ago a message appeared saying "Service tire Mon System". Could that be related to the Active Handling issue? I'm really at a loss of patience with this car and it's issues. For extra added fun, every time I drive the car for more than a few miles, it smells like burnt melted plastic when I stop. I've checked and don't see anything unusual under the hood and there are no diagnostic codes for anything so I have no clue what that is either.
Are you using the dic to pull the codes? If the service active handling warning came on then a code should have been set. The service tire mon system will also set codes but has nothing to do with active handling problem. A scanner will not pick up these type of codes so use the dic to pull the codes.
As for burnt melted plastic...does the car have headers? Possibly a wire too close the the exhaust. You should have someone look at this asap sounds like a problem ready to happen.
I AGREE!!! Great advice as stated above... When its all said and done and you actually read the DTCs at the EVENT,, you will most likely find that you need a new a Steering Wheel Position Sensor (as previously stated and recommended..)
As for the PLASTIC SMELL,, get the car on a LIFT and carefully inspect EVERYTHING around and near the exhaust system.
I agree with the SWPS being the problem. Also check your radiator for a plastic bag or other kinds of plastics stucked in there for the smell.
I had a plastic bag go under the car. Got caught on the exhaust. Made the burning smell every time I went out.
After about a week it finally burned itself out.
