I am looking to buy a 1999 but it came up with the dressed steering colum fault and
Pull key wait 10 seconds messages. It has the 1.5mph cut out too so a test drive was not possible. The steering column is not locked with the key out and I saw 2 recall stickers under the hood. I know an LMC5 module or similar will fix this problem but I don't own the car. (yet!) It is being sold by a smaller dealership. Is there anyway to get rid of the fault so I can at least test drive it. They want to send it back to a dealership for repair.
Thanks for any info you can send along. I have done a lot of great reading here.
The car has been in their showroom all winter so the carpet is most likely dry now but could have been wet at one time. Car is located in the northeast. Sucks they are sending it to a dealer as that is going to cost them $$$$ and will cut into me making a better deal on it. But they ain't going to sell it the way it is so I'll have to wait and see.
Thank you for your replies 8VETTE7! I did already read the "must" read. Thanks for the info on the DIC. I also have a Bluetooth adapter and have Torque. I will read the other links tonight. I hate to keep calling about the car because I don't want to seem "too interested". I will keep you posted.

Tell them what will fix the car,how can they sell a car that won't run,for 50 Bucks I would think it would be a no brainer for them to fix it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Update: It was a fried steering column lock relay. Test drove in on Wednesday and
bought it! HVAC blower motor had a very loud roaring sound at all speeds--got louder as speed was turned up. They are taking care of that and putting through NH state inspection. Hoping to pick it up tomorrow. I already have a LMC5 ordered and on its way. That will be the first order of business! Pictures are in a album under my profile.
Thanks for the help. I look forward to participating here and hopefully down the road I can contribute something helpful to others as well.
when I had my c5 I had alot of trouble with that darn column lock. Installed the bypass and it worked for quite a while but it failed also. I finally had enough and used my efi live and disabled the fuel cutoff so that way even if it did pop up the pull key or service column lock I could still drive it like normal. Before i was scared to take it anywhere for fear of that column lock problem. As you all know it will only ruin like 1mph before it would die. After tuning that out I could drive normally

Chris, congratulations on a very nice looking Corvette and welcome to the Corvette Forum. I think you will find that being a member here is going to make owning your car even that much more enjoyable. Whatever problem you may encounter, it's a given someone has already experienced it and a discussion and more often than not a solution, revealed here on the Forum.
I noticed that your '99 does have the "thin-spoke" wheels that came out in 2000. May folks have upgrade their earlier wheels over the years with them for their looks and light weight. I haven't heard a lot about it recently, but a few years back there seemed to be a rash of incidences where folks were discovering cracks in the spokes. I don't think it's something to worry about, but I would urge your to carefully examine them as you wash your car (and wheels). I would just make it a habit to run my hands down the spokes carefully each time you clean them. You may want to do a search here to see what the cracks do look like when discovered. Many never noticed them until they actually looked for them.
