Default Help learning key fob

I finally got around to upgrading to the newer fob/ tpms receiver on my 99. But I cannot get it to learn the fob. I did as instructed in the manual, but I can only get it to pop up to learn the wheel sensors, not the fob. I cannot find any other instance of this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Josh

If you cant learn TPS and program fobs, I doubt the RFA is actually working. Go back and recheck the wiring.

Remember.. The RFA "DECODES" the FOBs and TPS radio signals and sends them to the BCM via a serial data wire.

Actually READ the voltage on the power wire to the ground wire and see if the module is actually getting power and on the correct pins.

Bill

Are you reading the DTCs using the DIC? Have to ask/re-ask.

Just trying to get a better understanding of what is going on..

Correct, I was able to learn the tire sensors which are not installed and correctly read 0 and I get flat tire messages. I was getting a c2121 trouble code which is why I went ahead and did the sensors to see if it would help.

1. Key to on.
2. Got to reset a few things, low washer fluid, flat tires etc..
3. Option to blank screen
4. Hold reset for about 5 seconds and tire training comes up

-If I press option, nothing happens
-Press reset and it starts the tire sensor training
-Press any other button and it exits out

You did not say you got the newer FOB for the 2001 and later receiver. If you did check for proper battery voltage.

Has the carpet in the passenger foot well ever been wet??

Are there any indications that moisture has been in contact with the aluminum can the BCM is located in? ie water stains or calcium tracks on the aluminum????

The whole inside of the car has been sweating with the temperature changes. Even when I changed the receiver the back side of the body panels where moist with condensation. I will have to check again, but when checking the fuses I did not notice anything wet or signs of moisture in the floor compartment.

Mr. Sam

I bought the kit from Cultrag so I do have the newer fobs. But I as understand, even if I had no fob I should be able to get to the fob training on the DIC.

What I plan to do today is check for signs of moisture on the BCM, see if I can get tire training option to pop up with the receiver disconnected, and if so try undoing the battery cable for a bit and retrying.

DISCONNECT the battery. Pull the BCM out and remove the circuit board from the box. Look for crusty white deposits on the circuit board (TOP & BOTTOM)

WHERE In the hell did you get that picture. HOLY CRUMBA!! That's a PERFECT example of how bad it can get!

WOW!

Here is what mine looked like. Not bad but, it ONLY TAKES A LITTLE in the right areas to cause all sorts of hell..

Passenger side is dry and no signs of water in the electrical compartment area. I realize I still need to pull the BCM and check it out.

Driver side foot area is wet but it is dry under the seat and behind the seat.

Some other problems I am having that I want to fix early this spring are wipers not working and seats that move around. So I guess I will add water sealing in on the list.

So BCM looked fine and cycling the battery did not do anything. Tire training still would come up with the receiver removed.

Any ideas as what to try/ check next?

When I first bought the car, 2-3 years ago, the key fod did not work. I replaced the battery and cleaned the contacts, but did not help. I read online about having to do the learning process which I found the instructions in my manual. I remember being able to pull up the option, but I can't remember if I was able to get it to learn it. If it did learn it it only worked for a day or two. Researching that is when I came across the upgrade so I stopped messing with the old stuff.

My theory is that you should be able to pull up the fob training option whether the receiver works or not. I kind of tested this by being able to pull up the tire training with the receiver unplugged. I still am not convinced. What would rule out a bad receiver is if I could have someone who is able to pull up the fob training option unplug there receiver and then see if they could still get the option to come up.

I have a hard time believing the ground would be an issue as so much other stuff sharing it work. But as I need to pull the seat and carpet out I might as well pull the panel and check them out.

This seems more like a program problem then any hard items to me. Like when I replaced the instrument cluster in Sierra and I lost a lot of options on my DIC. That option just isn't there.

Got the driver side seat and carpet pulled. Carpet is a lot more wet then I realized. Passenger side is still dry.

Saw all the grounds on the bottom of the a pillar and all looked good. No signs of corrosion there.
