Just got the baby back from the dealer(whole different rant) but one of the secondary reasons I had it in is for an annoying creeking or clicking that seems to be coming from either the Drivers side pillar or the roof. Of course it is intermittent and they said there is nothing wrong(as usual) :boxing . Has anyone else had this problem pop up?
I've been chasing a similar noise which turns out to be from the Sun Visors. I posted a forum item on this a few weeks ago and found a number of other folks have the same problem. Not sure if this is same source of your noise but I wouldn't be supprised.
My dealer is has been terrific(Hawthorne Chevrolette of N.J) and ordered a repalcement visor for me. When it came in I examined it for similar internal clicking noise. Yup, it also made the noise. So service manager agreed to let me experiment with my visor and then replace it if I screwed things up.
So here's what I tried and it seems to be fine now:
1. I carfully peeled the warning label off the visor, and then slit open the visor with a razor blade(deep enough to get into the core of the visor).
2. Injected GE silicon adhesive inside the cavity of the visor.
3. Applied 3M adhesive to the label and then re-applied to the visror.
I believe my noise problem is now solved. I may have to do same to the passenger side visor soon as well.
I am assuming you have a coupe? I have a 1999 coupe and have had a creaking clicking noise for quite a while coming from the drivers visor area.
For me it turned out to be the handle for the targa roof. I could actually apply pressure to the handle as I was driving and make the noise disappear at will.
The dealer installed a new handle/lock and that fixed the problem for a good while. It did come back and I then followed some advise provided here on the forum.
I cut and applied the softer material sides of some velcro on the area of the inside top windshield trim ahere the locking brackets make contact.
Yes I have a coupe and the visor noise I had is not unique to a Coupe. Nor did it have anthing to do with the roof latchs. Noise came from the visors with or without the roof in place. Might add that folks with verts have had the same noise.
Any intermittant noise will elicit the same response from 97% of dealers, especially domestics. Of course, many techs' hearing is so bad they cannot even hear the noise should it occur in their presence.
This is a good reason for the Forum, sharing what we find, so we are not wholly at the mercy of da General and it's Shivvy dealers! My '01 has had no shortage of interior noises that have been bears to trace, fix, or both. :mad Good luck. :yesnod:
