Default Key Fob problem?

Hi All,
I have just bought privately a 2000 C5 and I love it. The only thing is that it does not open/close door locks or boot etc from key fob. I have replaced the battery and tried to pair it by holding both lock/unlock while in learn mode on the dash but ...nothing!

If I use the key in the drivers door it only locks the drivers door. If I use the internal door mounted lock/unlock buttons then it works perfectly, electrically locking/unlocking both doors.

Any Ideas? If its the Fob can i get another second hand one and program it for my car like from ebay?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Tony

Unless I mis-read, you do not need to put the car in learning mode after a battery change. Just stand near the car and hold both the lock and unlock button for about 10 secs. The horn will beep when learned. Only use the learning function if the fob is new to the car.

Sometimes the contacts get dirty. Open the FOB and clean the circuit board and the little contacts on the rubber and see if that fixes it. I have this issue with my Malibu and cleaning it brings it back every time. You can also purchase just the rubber cover with the buttons if needed and a lot of times that will be all the repair required.

If you do some searching you will find there are many problems with the early key Fobs. I have a 99 with the passive lock option (it worked so good GM discontinued it in 2000!) and the fob did not work when I bought it. Did more reading and found that someone discovered that there are bad solder joints on the fob's circuit board. Checked mine and it did have a bad solder joint. Hit it with a solder iron and it works fine now. You can get another fob for your car. Because they are so problematic and are in demand the tend to be more expensive even used $40-60. New they are $90 and up to some ridiculous prices. If you can solder or know some one who can try that first along with the cleaning mentioned above. Its worth a shot.

Wow what a great Forum! Thanks for all your replies.

I had tried the learning process as you discribed 8VETTE7 before a couple of times to no avail. I also had tried the holding of the 2 buttons down Ron..nothing.

I did look inside it (used to be an electronic engineer) and meter contact points also rough them up a little. I did not look for dry joints as at that point i suspected battery. Now its got a new one and still does not work I will investigate dry joints.

Fingers crossed! I will keep you posted.

Oh well I tried cleaning contacts on rubber pad and re-soldering/heating all major components but still nothing. It wont program/learn new fob! I looked at the link 8VETTE7 thanks and followed the discrpition but there looked like no dry joints and having confirmed continuity i still went ahead and resoldered just in case but still nothing.

As a side note should the car central lock when you use the key in the door as mine does not, it just locks the driver door. I know both doors lock together using the switches in the door panel by the window switches etc.

Hi I bought it 3 days ago and the tyres pressures popped up as being low and it displayed their values, i put 30 psi in them and no more warnings however when i look at the gauge now it has no values by the individual tyres! Looking at the codes it has both doors on there with a power fault on both being historically recorded. I have reset codes and switched back on no new fault codes have appeared.
Fault codes were as follows:-
LDCM (5)
B2252
B2282
B2284
B2264
U1064
RDCM (4 CODES)
B2283
B2285
B2265
U1064
RFA (5)
U1096
U1064
U1016
C2110
C2115
lAST 2 ARE THE REAR TYRE SENSORS BUT THESE DID SHOW A VALUE IN PSI BESIDE THEM YESTERDAY BEFORE I BLEW THEM UP TO 30PSI

Thanks for your help I really appreciate it. Not many experts in UK!!

You know that the tire sensors must be moving, you must be driving for a few seconds, for the pressures to read on the DIC, right? At rest when you start up the car, they will not register anything.

Make sure that you have the right Fob for that year of car..as you know the 1997 thru 2000 are different that the later models and much more expensive.

I had the same issue with my '98 that the key fob wouldn't work. I upgraded the remote receiver from original (98) to 2003 from a wreck for $35.00 including the OEM connector. Three wires, all the same, even the colors. I then bought (2) new key fobs on the auction site for $12.00. Problem solved for $47.00 and about 15 minutes of work...
