Default Starter's

My starter/solenoid is acting up, but looking to buy a new solenoid and starter rebuild kit, have been searching the internet with no luck. Can somebody recommend a source to purchase from? Thanks

is it the oem starter?... if so and since you are going through the trouble of removing it are you opposed to getting a new starter instead?... just curious because I always recommend the newer style truck starter that uses 2 long bolts instead of 1 long and 1 short to help prevent the starter from cracking the ear off the block... if you search around you will find lots of threads about this and the result is not pretty... I personally use the bosch sr8581n, it is right around $100 and has worked great for me as well as many others

I found a link with a solenoid pictured. It looks right to me.

Here it is: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...for-my-c5.html

I changed the starter when I rebuilt my motor and used the Bosch with the two long bolts.

Good luck

Default starter's

Thanks for the replies, I was thinking of buying a solenoid and brush kit for the OEM starter because of the prices I was finding, but the Bosch starter is sounding like a good deal, and plus I will not be having to remove the starter again for many year's.

Will this starter fit a 98 C5 MN6? I'm about to go buy a new starter and am looking for a good one.

Very good advice. The ear on my engine block has broke off because of that 1 short bolt. Very good idea to get that truck starter.

Having trouble getting this starter to fit. Do I need to modify something for this to fit?

On the stock starter the area (shown as a hump) is carved out and would fit. The new one is a solid line and doesn't want to fit.

I don't get enough wrench time under the hood to get very proficient at these things and I didn't want to try and force something without trying to see if I couldn't find a better way.

Mine is a 98 model.

Not in a big roush and would rather do it right. First race is in April.

This is the one you should have gotten with the second longer bolt. It slides right in.

Anyone have the part # for the long bolt? Did you use the hardware store or GM?

Thanks for the info on the starter. Will keep it on file just in case I need a new one down the road.
