All the lower shifter boxes are the same for C5-C7 so you can move it to another car if you trade up...
There are TWO types of Corvette shift lever upper parts. One is the OEM design. If you pull the shifter out of the lower box, the handle will and can flop around in ANY direction. In any Corvette shifter, there are NOT any gates contained in the shifter.
The second aftermarket design has springs inside the upper shifter and the springs assist the handle to the 3rd/4th N(center) gate.
All the handle does is move the rod in the lower box SIDE TO SIDE or FROWARD & AFT.
All of the GATES that you feel and the actual spring to the "3rd/4th N(center) gates" are done inside the transmission.
