Will my 275/40/18's on my 2000 stock rear 18's fit on new 18/10.5 ZO6 repros? And like wise will the stock 17's fit on the new 9.5's on the front? I was told they they would stretch. Is this true? Thanks
Eric, remember, there is no such thing as a dumb question, only dumb people who ask questions... ;) kidding of course....sort of....
Anyway, yes the tires will fit, but it is not an optimum set up. If you are doing this cause you are on a budget, and plan on getting the right tires in the future, then I say go for it. I wouldn't leave it like that for too long though. Good luck.
I have 295/35/18's on stock rear rims for 20K miles and they are wearing fine...and 255/40/17 on the fronts. I think you may be asking the opposite though...narrow tires on wider rims so I can't answer that.
I had my stock runflats mounted on my new Z06 sized chrome reproductions at first. When the Z06 repros first came out there was a lot of interest in them and I bought right away.
West Coast Corvette who I bought the wheels from indicated that the wheels specifications would allow for the smaller stock tire sizes to be mounted and be safe.
WCC also had Vettes with this setup and they did not think they looked too bad.
I had the smaler tirs mounted for about a week as the setup just did not look right to me.
In addition since the tire does not fill up the rim as it should and have that small bulge of tire that sticks out slightly from the rim edge you open yourself up to more easily scraping the rims against a curb etc.
Bottom lin is that they will fit and be safe for as long as the tires last but they do not look right IMHO and maybe even increase your chance of getting some curb rash.
