My 98 is the last year of the fuel return system. When you test the fuel pressure at the fuel rail, should it hold pressure after key is off? How about when the pump is done with it's 2 second priming cycle?
I have been having an issue with it being hard to start all the time and with fuel pressure right at key on goes to 60 psi. As soon as the pump turns off it drops to 0.
Anyone know how this is supposed to operate and what the proper fuel pressures are supposed to be?
Yes it should hold pressure after the pump shuts off. It will slowly lose pressure over time but it shouldn't drop more then 5-10psi within 5 minutes. It could be the pressure regulator or the check valve in the pump that's bad.

100% on the mark. Let me know if you need a new ADJUSTABLE PRESSURE Regulator. I happen to have one.
Thanks for the info guys. Bill I might take you up on the pressure regulator.
So, there is the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail that is controlled by intake vacuum. Is that the regulator for my 98? I thought the regulator was built into the fuel pump on my model. On later models it became part of the fuel filter.
Exactly how does my 98 regulate the fuel pressure?
FYI to all watching this thread. I just bought the Lingenfelter GRJ420P and will try to get it installed Friday night. (No I don't need the extra fuel flow. But it was a more cost effective option. )
