So, I notice the top of my catch can isn't tight, but when I screw it on tight (both the cap and nozzle), the top nozzle is pointing the opposite direction of where I want it to go.
Here's the way I want it, but the top is loose.
When I tighten the top, the nozzle points away from where I want it go:
From the top:
What can I do about this? Note that the side port is where I want it to be.
You can try wrapping the threads in teflon tape. It should take up some space so to speak and you can come up shorter when screwing it in and may line up where you want it. Hope that made sense.
I assume your connector has tapered threads (NPT). If so, you can use non-curing pipe sealant that doesn't require that the connector be super-tight. The disadvantage of using Teflon tape is that the connector to which the tape is applied DOES need to be somewhat tight, which can limit where the opening is facing.
