2000 Manual Tranny Fluid change time and I've got a few questions
Hi....
I going to change the tranny fluid in my manual transmission and I can't seem to find a definitive answer. It seems my 2000 Corvette has Dex III from the factory... but seeing as it has 50Kmiles and has never had a change.... I thought I'd go overboard and use Amsoil synthetic... but from what I read...it's not clear if I can use it because GM made a change after 2000 in the manual trannys to carbon fiber for something internal... It's clear in these forum threads that anything after 2000 can use the synthetic..but not clear for any year prior.
any advice or help would be appreciated..
and next i'll tackle the differential ...If you have any preferred products with proven track records...I'd like to hear about them

IIRC Amsoil TorqueDrive is one of the few full synthetics that is acceptable for all of the C5 6-speeds. I'm going to use it, but I've got an '04 (I'll also be using Amsoil SevereGear for the diff.).
Just do a search for Amsoil and you should get lots of info.

I changed the trans and diff fluids in my 99', M6 last week. After much research I played it safe and went with these. For the transmission I used AC-Delco 88861800, a little over 3 Quarts. For the diff I went with AC-Delco 88862624, no extra additive needed with this fluid. 2 Quarts.

I did mine recently:

Rear end:
No issues or noises, everything shifts and sounds great.

I used Royal Purple - and after all the stuff I read here about blocker rings and all the rest I bought the Amsoil Torque drive and will be replacing the RP shortly - also part of the equation is the year of your C5 - mine is an '00.

I have changed my transmission fluid with Redline D4 ATF now for 16 years with over 65,000 miles on the car. I do this once a year since I track my car at various HPDE events. No issues so far. I believe my 2000 C5 manual utilizes the paper blocker thingie.

I had redline previously on my 01 and it was a little notchy when the fluid was cold. Switched to Amsoil Torque Drive and haven't had any issues.
