Default c5 auto issues

If someone can pinpoint or suggest what they think are the issues are so I can have the dealer check those places out it would be much appreciated.

1. horse galloping sound near rear of motor close to passenger side heard at a fast rate especially inside the car its more noticeable.

2. Car shudders hard when you drive for 4-10 minutes when you turn off the car.

3. on idle the drivers seat shakes in a rocking motion in a left right pattern.

4. rattling coming from middle of car

I dont want to order any mods if any of this is serious. I bought the car 3 days ago and it never did this upon test driving.

I have searched before, but none of the problems others had seem like what I am experiencing.

If anyone can distinguish the problems, it would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds very much like you have a Torque Tube rubber coupling issue. If the rubber couplings deteriorate and start to break down, they will contact the inside of the torque tube.

They don't break down from use as much as age of the rubber and heat.

You are not going to get any further on the issue until you are able to get the car up on a lift and do some troubleshooting.

Get a mechanics stethoscope and start listing to major components and sub components to help narrow the source of the noise vibration..

I can feel the vibration in the seat. The car was only driven 15k by both previous owners who were collectors because there was hardly any maintenence done for the car.

I agree with Bill here but I'll say that you're likely experiencing two distinctive things;

1) Your drivetrain vibration is likely as Bill has said, and cannot realistically be accessed until the car is in the air.

2) You're experiencing seat rock because you have the infamous "C5 seat rock syndrome" and it's being further exaggerated by the drivetrain vibrations.

C5 seat rock can appear in cars with very low mileage. It's often aggregated by cars that have had the easy entry/exit feature activated (this is where the seat and wheel will position itself when you insert the key into the ignition). It's easily remedied if you're willing to perform seat track repairs.

Bill's mentioning of the coupler issue is a very well known issue that really doesn't have any real way to gauge failure rate. It can appear in cars that have seen very little usage and deteriorate simply due to rubber life and yet subsequently not appear in cars that have mileage nearing six digits that have seen no such service. It does require disassembly of the torque tube to access, and there are two different styles that changed over for the 2000/01 year model; basically the later style is a bit more robust but earlier cars can be retrofitted.

For sure as Bill said get it on a lift. You won't get anywhere without actually seeing what is going on under there.

I turned off the automatic seat adjusting thing and it still shakes. So im going to see this member of the club im in to check it out. I appreciate the info and am forwarding it to the tech. I am also going back to the audio person who did my universal ipod connection because my interior lights especially the trunk, mirror and floor board flashes on and off if I hit a certain bump. It never does it if I turn everything off and just use my hud to drive.
Dash flashes trunk ajar when its 100% latched.

An 04 C5 is far from a collector car.
