Greetings,
I am having the harmonic balancer replaced on my stock 98 automatic in a few weeks. There is a very slight wobble to it almost not noticeable but its there. I found two mechanics that will do it between $550.00 and $600.00. Two questions:
1. Is that a good price?
2. Is the AC Delco a good replacement or should I find something better?
I understand to have the bolt replaced that holds the balancer in. I will most likely have them change any pulleys that need to go as well.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Mines actually in the shop right now at Frank's Vettes near Houston for the same operation. He is changing the balancer, bolts, & everything required for install for $650. He is also replacing the AC belt and replacing some pulleys while he's down there. He is using power bond harmonic balancer instead of the stock product.

I'm very familiar with Frank. He and his guys do good work and treat customers fairly.
The shop doing the repair MUST know the install requires following the GM Factory Service Manual procedure 100%.
I do all my work so, cant really comment on the price. I SURE am glad I can do my own repairs!
Some things that you should make sure that are replaced:
The front cover seal.
New Torque to yield damper bolt.
OEM dampener is Ok BUT,, It is the same FAIL PRONE design as the one that your replacing.
Power bond is a better design.
If he removes the front cover, a new cover gasket is needed.
He CAN NOT use the old bolt to press on the new dampener.
