Default Removing Cats??

What are the pros and cons of removing cats and just installing two straight pipes? Sound, HP, inspections, ect...

Your car gets MUCH louder. I've seen everything from loosing 15hp/tq to gaining 15hp/tq being reported on the forum. It have probably to do with what kind of headers/exhaust system you have. I do not know about inspection.

Pros are maybe 2-3 hp and more cabin noise, which always makes for an additional 20 hp SOTP  Cons are losing 15hp and a $100k fine with 10yrs in Leavenworth. I hear KS isn't too bad this time of year.

You might try just the pre-cats, its fairly easy to do, and will make your car sound better, and give a few hp, while still maintaining stock looks, not needing o2 sims, and passing emissions. Just a thought. I believe they started with these in 2001  :seeya

I pulled all 4 cats and never looked back. I gained about 22 RWHP with the addition of TPIS Long Tubes and a x-pipe. The cats are DEAD WEIGHT!

When you pull them off and look inside there are so many layers of screen that you can't even see the other side...VERY RESTRICTIVE and they weigh about 30 lbs.! If nothing else go with a set of hi flow Random cats if your concerned with emissions but.. pull the stock cats for sure!!. If you don't replace the cats with hi flow you WILL need 02 sims.

Is there an odor...Yes and No. It's not an issue for me unless I'm standing still for a while and the breeze will blow the exhaust in the car..once in a while NOT all the time. Is it louder ...Yes..alot louder No just right..IMO:D I have Corsa Indy's and the car sounds Nasty at WOT and nice and clean during normal cruising speeds. Noise is a very subjective issue.:rolleyes:I have some videos of my car on my home page and you can listen to get an idea..:D

Anyway ..check my home page for pics of the entire exhaust install..Hope this helps..:D

I dynoed my BONE stock car before and after, with no other mods. I gained 14rwhp and 11on torque. It sounds a lot better and pulls a lot harder on the big end. Well worth it!

I agree with Vince, no smell that bothers me anyway, and performance is a plus.

I do think I lost a little low end (60' times are fractionally slower..) but the top end made up for it!

I have SLP Loudmouths w/no inserts so ours is to loud...just the way I like it! :D
