I've got a 2002 Convertible and the trunk like is giving me fits. Anybody else ever have any trouble getting the trunk lid to stay closed? It was working fine and just the past week or 2, it doesn't want to latch when I close it. It sometimes takes multiple attempts before it will latch. I tried adjusting it a bit, and I thought I had it, but once I put all the tools away, it started doing it again.
Any ideas? Does it maybe just need to be lubricated? If so, what should I use?
It is also much harder to close the trunk when the top is up because of air pressure. I have to give my trunk lid quite a shove to close it with the top up.
Thanks to all for the suggestions. Since it's a 2002 with only 2300 miles on it, I didn't think it should need to be greased yet, but I tried the white lithium grease anyway. I also tried adjusting the stops, tried adjusting the latch height, but none of those ideas worked either. Turns out the switch was sticking in the open position. When I was trying to adjust the latch, I loosened up the nuts holding the switch on and the locking latch sprung back over into the closed position. I took the switch off completely and it was stuck open. The casing was slightly spread apart and when I pushed it shut tight, the switch closed. While I had it apart, I put a little grease on the end of the switch where it meets the latch and put it all back together. So far so good. If it starts happening again, I'll have to see about taking it in to a dealer to get the switch replaced since it's still under warranty.
I have had this problem at times with my FRC. I have found that if you just hit the trunk button on the FOB, that will reset the locking mechanism and then the trunk lid will close normally.
