Starter not grabbing flexplate
Just installed new flex plate due to me shattering it. I bought a sfi off rpm transmission and just the stock starter I bought because also destroyed. I can't seem to get the starter to release the flexplate. It comes out and grabs it and doesn't let go it seems like it's going to far up I've put 4 of those spacers or whatever there called on the starter and still doesn't seem to change anything. Actually turned over the best without any of them. But I can't seem to get the starter to not reach out as far. Anyone have any experience installing a stock starter on a sfi flexplate,

I would suspect there is some problem with the starter, you stated that you replaced it but even new or re-manufactured starers can have problems. One thing comes to mind is the teeth count on the new flex plate it could be causing your problem, or severe misalignment between starter and flex plate. My 2 cents, good luck.
