Hi Everyone,
Got the '01 completed and to its 1st showing, WOW what a great time! However, the 3 mile drive to and from was a little strange though. The traction lock and Anti loc came on when I went above 35 MPH. I suspected the tires did it as they are a little bigger. This never happened before the new tires and wheels. On the way back, the car fought me as the brakes applied automatically when I was below 35. Once I got it past that and the speed was over 35 the lights came back on and the brakes did not act up again until I got home. I was told this may happen and it was a "simple" fix. The Tech II does not offer a way in to correct for the tire size. Do I need to borrow an MDI or, does anyone have any simplified suggestions?
Thanks,
Yellow '01

The Front tires are 245/45 ZR18 The rears are 285/35ZR19. I am OK with manual operation you spoke of.
Thanks for the input and much needed advise

This is good information. Getting ready to buy new tires and they don't make many Z06 size tires anymore so will need to get a different front than original.

What size tire would you suggest for the rear to get rid of the problem? and, be in the .5 to 1.5 larger range? I have the room to fit a bigger tire in there WO any interference. I looked at the thread "Another tire thread" and learned more about this issue. Looks like I'm needing the 295 30 19. Would you suggest that size?

What 8VETTE7 said, use this[http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp] too if you know the exact offsets of your wheels and it'll help out tons. Found it on an earlier thread but came in handy[I ended up going 265/35 18 (25.3") and 295/30 19 (26") with about 0.7" difference between the the two.
I am surprised the Tech 2 does not have a feature to change tire sizes. In EFILive, I changes my tire sizes last year and ran 275/35x18 both front and rear. I changed the tire sizes and drove about 2500 miles without AH engaging once.

I ran that size front and rear last year myself. AH would consistently give a short tug to the right at 112 mph, sort of like a bit of cross-wind. Now running 295-35-18s in the rear but haven't hit 112 with them yet.

Found the evo Hankooks in the 305 size you mentioned - for a great price in Discount Tire tire sale. Send me you thoughts on this an I'm ready to pull the trigger on them.

Well, your spot on as always, I'm getting the hang of it now - took a while to get it through my thick skull. I will go the smaller tire route as suggested on the front as this will put me well into the .5 to 1.5 range I need. Thanks to you and ALfyJr for the tire size calculator sites, the size differences are pretty easy to ID. This is why this forum is the best because of helpful people like you. Last question, could this size problem cause the anti lock light to illuminate?
Thanks

Yes, the antilock Brake System (ABS) light. Sorry for not being clear on the acronym for the system. I had a feeling that the two systems TC and ABS, where working to correct the issue, as it should.

I just had the same issue with my 'Vette this morning on my way to work and again when I ran out to get some lunch. I replaced the tires yesterday afternoon. I have a 99 coupe with Z06 rims, the tires that I just replaced where pilot sports, Tire Rack told me they didn't make/or were hard to find the size tires that I had on there so they gave me the another size that "would work" and I bought them. Now I have Continental Extreme contact 255/45 ZR 17 98W and 295 /35 ZR 18 99Y. I never had any issues with the TSC or ABS system in my car. My car feels like it is breaking and decelerates at around 35 MPH, the ABS and traction control lights come on as well as flashing traction system off, service traction system and service ABS on the screen. When I turn off the traction control the car runs fine no problems. However, try as I might the traction control will not turn back on. Once I shut the car off it resets itself and next time I crank her no warnings or lights. I am taking her back to Goodyear (I called them prior to discovering this post) and they want to hook the car up and see why its doing that. However, from reading this post, am I correct to assume that I got the wrong size tires on my Vette?
Are the tires the Extreme Contact DW or Extreme Contact DWS?? Makes a difference in what is available....
I just looked up the specs on the two Continintal Extreme Contact DW tires that you "MAY" have:
255/45-17 has an overall diameter of 26"
295/35-18 has an overall diameter of 26.1"
Delta in overall diameter rear to front is 0.1" and most C5's will exhibit TC issues with that small a delta. Factory stagger is about 1" with the rear tire overall diameter being 1" larger than the front tire overall diameter.
I looked through the Continental Extreme Contact DW tire selection and they do make a 285/40-18 that has an overall tire diameter of 27". That would put you back at the factory stagger (1") which will eliminate the TC issues you are experiencing.
Alternatively you could stay with the 295/35-18 rear and go to a 255/40-17 front which has a 25" overall diameter giving a stagger of 1.1"
I would get back to Tire Rack on this issue because they are the ones that gave you the WRONG info on tire sizes. The Goodyear shop just mounted what Tire Rack sent........... Not their fault that Tire Rack screwed up. JMHO
8VETTE7-thank you for your response, it was very helpful. The tires that are on my car now are the Continintal Extreme Contact DWS. I agree with you, it's not Goodyear's fault that I was sent the wrong tires, but since it happened after they put the tires on my car, I called them. However, I never took my car back to them for two reasons, 1. the information that I found on here in regards to the incorrect tire size, and again, if that is the problem it is not their fault, they installed what I told them to, and 2. the "tech" that put the tires on my car called me and was very rude and talked to me like I was stupidest person in the world and told me that I must have turned the traction control on when I hit the blinker, then proceed to tell me that traction control does not need to be on and to manually turn it off when i get in the car and that solves the problem no need to bring the car in. Unless there is some hidden button that I don't know about, the last time I looked around my car the traction control button is by the gear shifter. So no I will not be taking any of my cars back to that place.
