Default Battery Terminal Connection Issue

The bolts on the OEM terminals on my '98 C5 appear to be too short; only one or two threads mate before they are tight, allowing them to loosen easily. Any thoughts about a redneck fix short of going with either aftermarket cables or replacement terminals?

Are you sure it is not the battery? You can get new bots at any auto store.

Mr. Sam
You can get replacement bolts at any auto parts store. The required TORQUE is 11 ft/lbs.. for 1997-2003 C5s

The battery is a new red top Optima, if that means anything. Since the bolts are captive on the OEM terminals, I'd have to pry the copper retainers out to replace the bolts. Probably the redneck solution I was seeking.

The bolts are only held in by the red and black insulating rubber on each battery lug. Pull the rubber back and the bolts will come right out--at least they did on my 1999. As was said above you can get new bolts at an auto parts store or even Wal-Mart for under $5.

Thanks for all the valuable input. It seems the older I get, the less I know.
